That awful poster with Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc

Message Bookmarked

You know which one. This embarrassment is called something along the lines of "Legends Lounge" and depicts a kind of rock'n'roll heaven jam session wherein Elvis sings; Lennon plays (presumably) rhythm on a Rickenbacker; Buddy Holly strums an acoustic; and Hendrix obliviously tortures a Strat stage right. Jim Morrison just stands off to the side looking lost; I'm assuming he's on backup vocals. There is no bass player. Keith Moon is on drums, I believe.

Anyway, it had just occured to me that the music made by this particular assemblage of personalities would be unbearably awful. Anyone care to comment?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you fucking kidding? What on earth would be awful about: Lennon + Elvis?? Lennon + Holly?? Hendrix + Morrison (already proven great!)?? Hendrix + Lennon (already proven great!)?? Holly + Hendrix (two greatest Strat guys)?? Keith Moon + ANY of these party animals???

This aggregation would greatness upon greatness upon greatness, and I'd like to see anybody paint a black velvet image that proves otherwise.

Marilyn, James Dean et al don't mean shit to me, but rock-god idolatry definitely does. Same with Pac & Biggie T-shirts. It's like folk-art inspired by folk-art.

Yeah, I see people wearing those shirts all the time, and it seems to represent EXACTLY the type of person who would wear one. And as a sartorial choice, a silkscreened wolf on a black T-shirt doesn't seem all that "crazy."

oh man this reminds me of that crap "boulevard of broken dreams" poster, in which james dean, humphrey bogart (!), and marilyn monroe appear in a version of hopper's "nighthawks at the diner." it never fails to show up in half-assed "50s diners" and bad college town used bookstores.

Oh yeah, I do get a pop up if I click through to yours. The way to post is just to use the "Direct link" url and post it using ilx's image posting syntax (ie the bbcode for the time being)

Yeah it sounds like you've got images set to not display on ilx. I posted the direct link to the image as an image embed, so it just shows to me in the thread without having to click on the url. It sounds like ilx converts the image to a url if you have it set to not display images, and that postimg doesn't handle people going to the direct url well. Sorry.
