Where Have All the Good Bands Gone?

There are no good bands anymore. Sure Kiss is still touring, but they haven't put out anything original for a couple of decades. If I hear another Usher song, I think I'm gonna buy me a can of pink spray paint and find me the blingingiest rims I can find at the mall and "pimp" them out hardcore!

MAN, I was gonna make a KISS joke after reading the title, but damn, you had to mention them in seriousness! Fucking A, I had it all set up like "Yeah, once KISS let Mark St. John go, it was all down hill" or something bad.

The answer to your question, Pat, is Iraq. With the call-up of reserve units, many of the members of America's good bands have been pressed into service in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This may well hold true for a number of top British rockers, too. With the handover of sovereignty and gradual rollback of Allied involvement, the good bands will soon be rockin' in the free world once again. Happy listening!

Now that ILX will be out of commission for two weeks, this is a time for ILXors to get their asses and into the recording studio. Those who can, do. Those who can't, write about it on ILM. The long-term health of music is in our hands. Take hold, all of you!!

I'm looking forward to a music documentary by Ken Burns in 2045 that talks about the "shows that could have been" if only Operation Iraqi Freedom hadn't occurred. Which great guitarists lost the best years of their life to wartime? Which great ensembles disappeared forever? Only the years will tell....

Barry, I'm telling you I have a vision...of all ILMers forming little groups and by the magic hand of a money-giving god booking studio time as these groups. It could be done individually or in a group of up to say 20 people. And what's more, the creative process will be going on all at the same time. And the recording will go on at the same time. And then everyone will make the results available to everyone else. And we'll all meet back in two weeks and talk about the results. And resolve to form new groups...then we will take over the world, etc.
