But it would be way cooler if it were about his zealous love of pteradactyles and other flying lizards of countless centuries passed

Alex, I always wondered that too. And then, my senior year of college, I was writing a research paper on Mark Twain and came across a character in Life on the Mississippi named "Jimmy Finn." If I remember correctly, young Samuel Clemens gives Jimmy Finn a pack of matches while Finn is in prison. Later that night, Finn lights his bed on fire and perishes in the flames. (You might want to check on that to -- it was a year ago and I may have forgotten what exactly happened...)
Not sure if Hollis was at all aware of that story, but the guy's name is Jimmy Finn..........

I hear Debussy is coming back from the dead to soundtrack a Friends reunion movie.

I wonder if Mark is pissed that the music he created for the movie he was inspired by, is actually being used on a Kelsey Grammer show.
― Evan, Friday, 31 August 2012 15:10 (thirteen years ago)
I'd be very surprised if that change hadn't been approved by Hollis.

I can imagine "sigh I guess" being the official approval.

I got a feeling Mark Hollis is a guy with some dark secrets.

"At first he said, no, and most people would have left it at that. You know Kevin Shields? He hadn't done anything for years when I got him to send me some unmemorable noodling for the "lost in translation" soundtrack. I'm not a man who takes no for an answer, especially from reclusive indie geniuses. So I sent Mark this beautiful script. Really beautiful. He was so inspired he wrote an album around it, maybe even named a kid after one of the characters. But the funding fell through and the movie never got made. So I figured, hell, why waste genius when I can play it over the ending scene of this Kelsey Grammar drama? If Mark watched the show, or any TV, I know he'd be impressed. I wonder if anyone ever told him that movie never got made?"
"Anyway, I have a few unreleased Kevin Shields tracks I was thinking of mixing with a few more Mark bits. Because everybody wants that collaboration to happen, right? Let me tell you, it sounds great. In my head. But it will sound even better in the season premiere of Kelsey Grammar's Boss."

"Hollis, this is Kelsey. I know where the bodies are buried, give me the tracks and there won't be any problems."

Just saw the review for a bio of Talk Talk in Mojo yesterday. Might be an interesting read. Probably be about as close as an in on Mark Hollis as you'd get?
