What Did You Do With No ILM For Two Weeks?

I partied like it was 1999. I listened to punk rock. I had a FAP with my eddytor and his family on Martha's Vineyard. That was fun. I ate pizza. I was outside a lot more and I don't know how I feel about that. Hope everyone had fun.

Is it symbolic that after the two weeks of dreadful weather in the UK, now ILX is back it looks like the weather is picking up?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I knifed a hobo.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Same as most- I wished it would come back online early, checking often, and went back to old msg boards to lurk there.....

mclaugh (mclaugh), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I spent time on some single-topic music boards. Like, boards dedicated to one band. I JUST CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE!!! I just can't stay on topic! I just can't not lose my shit at kneejerk pop-haters or stuck up indie kids. I missed you, ILM. ::mwah mwah:: Never go away again!

Ma$onic Boom (kate), Friday, 16 July 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I nursed my injured foot, missed a lot of really good salsa happenings, and didn't read books as much as I thought I would. Bought some new CDs. Where's that thread?

Which is why you're back straight after it re-opened?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 16 July 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

And yes, spent a little more time on other boards, usually taking things a little off topic.

I mostly went about business as usual, occasionally visiting my ILM bookmark out of habit, bringing myself to the realization that I read ILM way more than I had thought.

Tried out a new anti-anxiety medicine, got a massage, identified some insects and fungi, "opened" for IZITITIZ, listened to the Mopomoso Solos 2002 cd, got some rest.

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Friday, 16 July 2004 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Rockist:

I saw Philly-based Dominican republic merengue band Franklin Hernandez y sus Tipican Brothers play for free a few times at the Smithsonian Folklife festival between the Washington Monument and the Capitol in Washington D.C. Franklin's a big guy who plays a tiny accordion, and he's backed by an electric bassist, a percussionist and a sax player. Sometimes it sounded like polka sped up by Kanye West. A "traditional" band that's alot of fun...The Smithsonian had lots of bands from Spanish-speaking countries there, plus an Haitian theme as well.

Steve Kiviat (Steve K), Friday, 16 July 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Ditto for me. I especially missed ILM on my overnight shifts at work...incredulously visiting this funereal black screen again and again.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 July 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of the black screen, why did it change from funny (and v. ILXish) to boring? did people actually complain?

common_person (common_person), Friday, 16 July 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Because of a tremor in the Force.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 July 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i did frisbee too - joined a league even¡
+
i checked out the toronto electronic music festival - some jega jazzists, manitoba, junior boys, dj serious, etc.
+
i took in janet cardiff's 40 part motet, which i recommend for any ilm'ies in the area.

dyson (dyson), Friday, 16 July 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Monday 5th was a difficult day. After that I didn't really miss ILM too much. But work's been busy anyway lately. Read more of the Freaky Trig blogs and other ILXer's/music blogs than I would otherwise have done, so that was good.

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 16 July 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Subscribed to the I Hate Music board on bagatellen. More anonymous, fewer laughs, but still more valuable than most mailing list activity.

Cursed my employer for keeping IE as its standard web browser.

Cursed AMG for imploding.

doug watson (solid air), Friday, 16 July 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriousy, what the fuck happened to Allmusic? It completely sucks a big bag of dicks now.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 16 July 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

what the fuck happened to Allmusic?

It appears that their new alliance with Microsoft has included the adoption of their partner's bulky and buggy code. Tragic.

doug watson (solid air), Friday, 16 July 2004 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

IT'S BACK!!!! WOO-HOO!!

(I hated that 2-week raft of a forum on network54...)

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Friday, 16 July 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Friends visited, made plans to visit other people (going to NY later today), indulged in Dursteria on Two Weeks. Whenever I got too bored at work I just dived headlong into the music blogosphere (which seems to get bigger every day).

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 16 July 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, but JP Almeida, TWX had the Durst thread: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/message?forumid=323139&messageid=1089984424

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Friday, 16 July 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Franklin Hernandez y sus Tipican Brothers

I've never heard of them. Maybe they are the same band I saw a few years ago on New Year's Eve. My friend and I showed up about an hour before the club was scheduled to close (since we had been at a concert), but they still charged us the same amount. The host said, "We flew this band in all the way in from the Dominican Republic." My friend later whispered to me: "That's the same band they have here every week."

Rockist Scientist, Friday, 16 July 2004 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I just borrowed Rainbow Children, which has some nice music mixed in with Prince's vocodored religious appeals.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Friday, 16 July 2004 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

there should be a thread on how bad allmusicguide is now.

That's a good point.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Friday, 16 July 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

there is one already.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 16 July 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

even though I KNEW ilm would be down i still came to the site. i dont know what the hell i was thinking -- maybe it would recognize my IP address and suddenly appear just for me? perhaps? i can be that dumb.

otherwise, i remember there was some holiday, i was angry because my pay raise was botched at work, i ate some food, slept booked a couple shows.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Friday, 16 July 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Honestly, I thought it was really amazing how many people I know were upset or whose lives were disturbed by not having ILM for a few weeks. Says a lot, I think — good things, too.

I travelled around Indiana. It's really a beautiful state.

I cooked. Cheap-ass fruit and veggie vendors pop-up everywhere around the highways this time of year. Eggplant stirfry. Vegan burritos.

I drank. I realized half-involved ILM posts are the best way to waste time when you're hungover. I missed that.
