Madonna [hearts] Eno

Jeepers, so much over the last two weeks. Where to begin?

Anyway, one notable experience: before Madonna's Chicago show (well, the first of them) she played "Another Green World" - in its entirety - over the PA! Definitely a surreal experience, hearing those songs I love so much piped into an arena, mixed with the yammer of 15,000 Madonna fans.

you know who else loves Eno? Subway's Jared! That's right, a few days ago I saw a Subway commercial featuring a track from Apollo Atmospheres. I forget the title, but it's the same one used in 28 Days Later. The commercial show some fat teenager running thru woods or something and then Jared appears holding up his fatfuck pants. Eno, you dumbass!!!

interesting bit of eno/jared trivia

"jared fogle" changed his name in 1998 from "harold budd". seems new age fame was hard on budd; he withdrew to his small new hampshire farmhouse, and began to gorge himself on sticky buns, ballooning to 300 pounds while recording increasingly frantic meditation pieces. when subway finally put a location within staggering distance of budd's house, he heard their lowfat message like the word of God. "harold budd" became "jared fogle" and the rest is history.

josh while you're here, tell us how the gig was.
did she look as bored as she does on the posters?
am thinking of going to the gigs in england,
but hey how are they?!

peter - ah, so that explains that. new age = lite = low carb?

p.s. "and Madonna sucks, she's a dick."

Fatfuck, Friday, 16 July 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah - i just read about it on this awesome website www.haroldbuddisjaredfogle.gov

hahah

btw, the Subway commercial is for real unfortunately. is Eno a fan of their sweet onion chicken teriyaki?

Fatfuck, Friday, 16 July 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This reminds of the mild shock I got when the Pet Shop Boys played Kompakt's "Pop Ambient 2002" over the PA as their intro music.

at the outdoor film in grant park (chicago) on tuesday, the projectionist played selections from john fahey's "america" before and after the film!

amateur!st (amateurist), Friday, 16 July 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

to like 5,000 people in the crowd. i wonder if fahey's ever had a bigger audience, so to speak.

I wanna hear Madonna cover "Backwater" from Before and After Science.

whatever, blank frank would be a way cooler cover.

tom cleveland (tom cleveland), Saturday, 17 July 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Doug Hilsinger & Caroleen Beatty have just released a really cool re-working of Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy.

(The Madonna show was pretty cool, visually, and probably worth the money for that alone. If you have the money to waste, that is. Musically it was so-so - her rock version of "Burnin' Up" was pretty great - but thematically most of the show was preachy and muddled. Was she bored? Definitely during "Material Girl," but that's kind of the point, considering it was played as a droll joke. The rest of the show was mostly auto-pilot, though her singing was fine and her dance moves/yoga impeccable. Tons of Kaballah shit weighing things down, though.)
