Ali Aldik: new debka star!

This looks/sounds (judging by the sample) like something that might interest some of you. Debka (widespread Arabic folkloric dance) with programmed beats and cheesey keyboards (which sound a good deal older than the drum programming being used, to me).

I think his name is probably pronounced "Aldeek," so no Aldik jokes.

I want a copy anyway.

Nu-debka! Let us make debka together. (I have heard Arabs speaking in English use that curious construction: "make debka.")

I had a venti iced coffee from Starbucks and a Mountain Dew Code Red today. That's a lot of caffeine for me.

You have to scroll down past the goofy looking DVDs.

I think a bunch of you would like this, but I'm too lazy to make a really attempt at persuasion.

The fun thing is the wild variety of timbres that are put over the programmed beats. Lots of electric organ or synthesizer (playing microtonally remember) with lots of effects, flute (almost jazzy at times), and oud.

I checkde out the audio clips last night once I got home and this sounds awful. I still like the CD Aloush though. (I don't see the need for a "live" version of some of the same material, especially when it consists pretty much of a pre-recorded background with rough vocals on top.)

It's kind of debake meets Hooked on Bach meets Jethro Tull meets early Kraftwerk meets Rahsan Roland Kirk meets Egyptian New Sound.

How come no one who downloads Ali Aldik from me ever comes back and says anything positive?
