I know there was a thread on The Homosexual's Record, but this is different. Your thoughts?

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 17 July 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Completely great set. The book info is fascinating and the music has so much stuff to discover/re-digest that this is gonna be on heavy play for a while round here. Bruno was selling drugs to Zep while they were in the studio recording Stairway, there's a neat little bit of trivia you learn in the liners (plus the story of Chrissie Hynde trying out for the singer role...)

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Saturday, 17 July 2004 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, thre were some great stories. I haven't had time to listen to all the music yet. I am a bit frustrated that I can't figure out how to sort out the LP out of all the tracks. I might have to buy that.

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 17 July 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

After further research I now realize there wasn't ever an official homosexuals album. I think I knew this, but forgot.

Anyway, The Homosexuals are so much better than Sublime!

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 17 July 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to live to see the day when this band is ingratiated into the glamorous post-punk canon. Furthermore, L.Voag's The Way Out may be the best of the lot.

dleone (dleone), Saturday, 17 July 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to live to see the day when this band is ingratiated into the glamorous post-punk canon.

I assume you don't like this idea? Or perhaps something else.

I'd love to buy that Le'Voag disc, but I really hate paying 15 pounds or whatever for amblems. Thats like 30 $!

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 17 July 2004 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I had high hopes for the Homosexuals stuff but The Way Out remains my favorite yup.

pay the thirty!

(Jon L), Saturday, 17 July 2004 05:42 (twenty-one years ago)

The Way Out is a little more Residents-y than the early Homosexuals records. It's damn good, though.

Tim Ellison, Saturday, 17 July 2004 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

So. God. Damn. Great. My favorite release of the year so far, and it's hard to imagine what might beat it out.

Douglas (Douglas), Saturday, 17 July 2004 06:12 (twenty-one years ago)

just a reminder Bruno Wizard and the Homosexuals (in Exile) will be performing 2 shows in New York and one in Baltimore. Information here:

http://www.hyped2death.com/HS-news0704.html

but I will post more up-to-date info here and on nyhappenings as it comes, as I'm involved with the saturday show. The friday show at the Knit is 15/20 bucks and has them opening for Suicide, the saturday show is at Tommy's in greenpoint, a tiny and totally cool, down to earth local bar most infamous for an irregular friday night !!! dance party. It'll be 7 bucks, not 10 as previously mentioned. It has a small room in back that is well air-conditioned and has a good sound system, at least for DJing. The show will be be Bruno + co., Dan Melchior's Broke Review and very likely the canadian band Les Mouches who seem quite interesting. This isn't quite confirmed yet. The Crazy Rhythms DJ Crew will play some records inbetween and after and will be joined by DJs Burgertime and Pickpocket. Mostly just post-punk/diy fun and randomness, if the vibe is good, maybe some serious dance music.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 17 July 2004 06:45 (twenty-one years ago)

btw, I like The Way Out but much prefer the pop/psyche/folk/rock of the most accessible Homosexuals stuff, with a serious soft spot for the original instrumental guitar stuff on the George Harassment LP, which I always thought sounds uncannily like Roy Montgomery's 4track guitar stuff.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 17 July 2004 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

chuck warner's liner notes are superlative. he sets the bar and shows how it should be done.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 17 July 2004 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i just found out i might get to do an interview with the homosexuals for WMUC, the university of md radio station!

peter smith (plsmith), Saturday, 17 July 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

some snappy-ass pop tunes on those cds, great stuff. seems like their (deserved) reappraisal is imminent.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Saturday, 17 July 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

2 glaring errors in Chuck's liner notes. First, he lists the wrong song as being on the ReR 7" sampler, it's Total Drop. Second, he spelled my name wrong, twice!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 17 July 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Its going to take a very long time to digest this one-excellent all the way around! Is there any songs that are exclusive to the ReR CD or can I get rid of it now ??

brg30 (brg30), Sunday, 18 July 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

from Chucks complete Homosexuals discography at http://www.hyped2death.com :

For completists, here are the reasons to own the ReR CD as well as Astral Glamour:

(1) It's a faithful reproduction of the original LP
(2) alternate mix of Vociferous Slam
(3) alternate mix of Mecho Madness
(4) alternate/longer mix of Collapsible You
(5) better recording-quality on "Still Living in my Car" and? "Snapshots" instrumental
(6) Graham's poster

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 18 July 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the ReR mixes of Vociferous Slam and Mech Madness better (supposedly they have tape wobble or something).

artdamages (artdamages), Sunday, 18 July 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

hey.

RE: Saturday's Homosexual's show, Les Mouches had to cancel because their van broke down. It's not totally official yet but it looks like the Tall Boys are going to play. For those who haven't seen them, they are a shambolic post-punk type band like a bastard child of X-Ray Spex and the Fall maybe? Anyway, when they're on, they're really great fun.

Flavorpill wrote up friday's Suicide show at the Knit without mentioning the Homosexuals at all...shame on them!

Spread the word to those in the area!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Will someone provide a report of the Homosexuals in Exile's performance?

Tim Ellison, Tuesday, 20 July 2004 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

just an update...had an extensive conversation with Bruno today. He has some stories. He was on John Allen's show on WFMU performing and talking, and I think he may be on Mike Goodstein's show this monday eve. For John's show, check the recent archives. Fascinating stuff.

Saturday will feature the Tall Boys and Broke Review as openers and a special late-night performance by Putting on the Ritz, which is 2 local scenesters wearing tuxes and performing standards. Tommy's is small, it's cheap, and it's loud. Bring ear-plugs.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 23 July 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

as said in the other thread:

AMAZING!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 25 July 2004 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
I've just finished the first CD and started the second and I would like to say that everything I've heard so far is absolutely completely and utterly fantastic.

I wish I'd been aware of this stuff when it first came out 'cos I'm sure I'd have immersed and lost myself in it as thoroughly as I did comparable and contemporaneous stuff by the likes of Buzzcocks, The Fall, Joy Division, Scritti Politti, Wire, XTC etc. etc. etc.

Dr. C: did you get this / The Homosexuals Album in the end? If you did, what did you think? If you didn't get either, you really must get this 'cos I'm sure you're going to love it!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

No I haven't - I'll get it. Where do you get it from?

I do have a track of theirs on Seeds 2 : Rock. I can't remember what it's like - it shares vinyl with the mighty Past Seven Days and Marine btw.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Amazon - although it actually took them 36 times longer than the 24 hours they originally gave as the estimated despatch time.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey. There must be somewhere else. Maybe Sister Ray. Or I might try one of the Z-shops.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Also try morphius.com, for THE HOMOSEXUALS RECORD, and perhaps ASTRAL in stock also. (They're tied in with smogveil.com, origin point of Rocket From The Tombs CDs and much else). The earliest tracks on RECORD aren't very good, from when they were trying to fit the punk mold, which certainly did exist. But as soon as they ditched that, and ripped open their *own* post-punk (not too much like Joy D., Go4 etc.!) that's when they radiated true Astral Glamour. Douglas Wolk's AG review at villagevoice.com ace (put Search subject in quotes, or the voice box'll give you irrelevancies) Also see http:thefreelancementalists.blogspot.com/ (don't hang www.in there or it'll punk out on you. Scroll down to july/august archive)

Don Allred, Wednesday, 18 August 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Morpheus manufactures and distributes Astral Glamour as well as the Record, so they should have both.

I wouldn't say they were trying to fit the punk mold, as they are official class of 77 early punks, check out the ad in an old issue of Sniffin' Glue, where the Rejects (essentially the Homosexuals) open for the Damned in 77.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I haf ordered it from Morphius. It better be good!

What's the latest on the Prefects CD, Dan?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't one just order it straight from the source? (I haven't yet, but have been meaning to.)

morris pavilion (samjeff), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

thats where i got it from. pick up some messthetics discs while youre there!

artdamages (artdamages), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, order directly from http://www.hyped2death.com

The Prefects CD is done. Assuming there aren't any manufacturing issues. Which means I'm waiting for emails "your art isn't seperating...we can't read the master...blah blah blah."

20 pg book, collages of cool color snapshots by Helen Apperley(gtrists wife/manager/roadie) and great b+w photos by a guy named BJ. An intro page from Robert Lloyd, another from Alan Apperley and longer liners from Helen with some great anecdotes. I'm pretty happy with it and hope it comes out smoothly. Will be in stores in November if all goes well.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I've now finished the second disc (I've been listening to it in the car).

Please can I add Alternative TV and Swell Maps to my little list of "comparable and contemporaneous stuff"?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 19 August 2004 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Great news on the Prefects. I will be reporting here in detail about the Nightingales autumn dates, cos we're supporting them.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 19 August 2004 09:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Would it be too much to absorb for a newbie?

alex in montreal, Thursday, 19 August 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

As a fellow newbie, I'd say "no", except I still haven't moved past Disc 1 for fear of getting bullrushed by excessive goodness.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 19 August 2004 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

At the price, it seems like totally the way to go.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 19 August 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of Swell Maps, their "Read About Seymour," on WANNA BUY A BRIDGE?, sounds like the Homosexuals to me. No dis to either (it's only 1:28 in any case: good, but too short. Homosexuals to the rescue!

Don Allred, Friday, 20 August 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Johan Kugelberg's original L Voag interview in Ugly Things started by grouping the Homosexuals with other groups of the period, vitalized by the punk DIY ethos but more mature or experimental or whatever....Swell Maps, This Heat, Desperate Bicycles. It was like he was talking directly to me. OK, now it makes sense. Were you into weird music and the Sex Pistols taught you to do something about it or did you hear the Sex Pistols and you decided you wanted to sound like them?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 20 August 2004 02:14 (twenty-one years ago)

"Were you into weird music and the Sex Pistols taught you to do something about it or did you hear the Sex Pistols and you decided you wanted to sound ike them?" Exactly the question that era posed,AN and still does: punk as spirit or letter, breakthrough or backlash? (Brian in Life of Brian:"You are all individuals! You must all think for yourselves!" Multitudes: "YES! WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS, WE MUST ALL THINK FOR OURSELVES!" [pregnant pause] "TELL US MORE, O BRIAN!")

Don Allred, Friday, 20 August 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I have it.

Stewart completely OTM about disc 1 - great stuff. I was making a mental list of reference points fwiw - Wire (obv), Pink Floyd, Roxy Music/Eno, Soft Boys, but yet it's not like any of these really. The package is a superb labour of love too - great booklet. Best track 'Walk Before Imitate', but only just!

Disc 2 and 3. Oh dear, 90% shit. No doubt someone will tell me there's genius within, but most of this is terrible, particularly the cassette-only stuff. I haven't had the time to study the recording dates etc, but I assume that AG is roughly chronological? If so it's depressing and kind of demeaning after the majesty of Disc 1. Two further moans - when they didn't use a proper drummer, the 'drumming' (Bruno?) makes those tracks unlistenable. Likewise the tracks with the female 'singer'. Yes, yes I KNOW it's *DIY*, but what's the point of this no-fi rubbish? It does them a disservice. Anyway sorry to be miserable about this - I know there are people on ILX close to this recd. Each to his own.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

It all sounds great on random play.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 2 September 2004 11:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Start with single disc (anybody who starts with triple-disc of anything, esp. prev unissued/deeply buried, better expect errata)

Don, Thursday, 2 September 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

But the rubbish stuff on CD 2/3 is going to be rubbish whether you start there or not!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 2 September 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

But some of the best stuff is on discs 2 and 3. Prestel and You're Not Moving were recorded after L Voag left the band and I think is the Homosexuals at their finest. Disk 3 starts with the Sir Alick single(Bruno solo) which I also think is brilliant. I love the George Harassment stuff, I think much of it is beautiful, Calvary, Symphonic thais, ToTo Rello, Youghurt etc, then the instrumental stuff that sounds like solo Roy Montgomery later on disc 2. The Vencerwemos cassette sounds the worst, but songs like Pamela and Still Living in My Car I think are little gems, while Mad Bombers of Major Valour is just amazing.

I think it's also a question of context, to listen to it all at once isn't fair to some of the stuff. Like, when I first got the George Harassment LP, it was a world onto itself, and really not something to compare to what was previously heard on the LP or EP.

And the main reason I tell people they HAVE to get Astral Glamour is simply because the ReR CD doesn't have Prestel on it, and that's worth the extra price alone. I mean, I paid 26 dollars for my copy of the Prestel single, you can pay a bit more for a 3cd box set with great liner notes then the single CD.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

there are about six or seven pop gems not on the ReR single CD. a lot of fragments, some fantastic some interesting some half-baked, a lot of stuff I probably didn't need to hear.

looking at the pictures of the original vinyl releases though, you can tell how amazing it must have been to drop the needle on this stuff... the packaging was a huge part of the mystery, I can imagine trying to figure out where in the world this stuff came from. There was a reason for the multiple artist names. Purposefully obscure music like this definitely loses something when presented as an archival 3 CD set -- not to complain about finally getting a chance to hear it, the best of it is beyond classic.

(Jon L), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

those were fun times, before all the reissues! I got the ReR record at some point in the mid 90s when you could still order it for 12 bucks from ReR, I found mine at the Princeton Record Exchange for 12 bucks. It was a total mystery, or course. For at least 5 years I assumed that was the whole story untill Chuck Warner sold me Prestel. It blew my mind. Then traders were sending each other tapes "hey, I think this is a homosexuals record, but I'm not sure"! L Voag's continued work in the LMC and in Barcelona just made a bigger mess of things, so much to sort through. And his stuff was never as brilliantly poppy, so what about the rest of it all? And rumours that Bruno was involved in the London club scene of the late 80s/90s. All of that.

When Bruno was here he came on WFMU twice. First he talked to John Allen, which can be found here:

http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/11949

Then I invited him back to talk some more nonsense and things got pretty silly. Listen to Bruno talk about sellling drugs to Robert Plant, then sing over a skipping copy of Stairway to Heaven. This starts a bit dry with Mike Goodstein talking to Bruno, then Mike Simonetti of Troubleman and I start in and Bruno realizes this is a comedy show, and things get dumb.

http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/12014

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 17:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I got this last weekend; listened to all three discs, one after the other; and was surprised at how great pretty much all of it sounded to me. I was expecting to get bogged down, as Dr. C describes, but I really enjoyed the second two discs.

The only tracks I wasn't so hot on are the ones where a present-day Bruno sings over old instrumental tracks (if I've got that right).

morris pavilion (samjeff), Thursday, 2 September 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
I've had the CD reissue of "The Homoseuxals' Record" for a while. Love it and really wanna investigate other stuff but...

Disc 2 and 3. Oh dear, 90% shit.

I think I'll download and pick and choose rather than buy outright. Sorry guys.

Oh No, It's Dadaismus (and His Endless Stupid Jokes) (Dada), Thursday, 1 December 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

much of the best stuff is on disc 2 and 3! Why not buy the box set for those, and the liner notes, and to support the artist and label? A lot of the stuff on disc 2 isn't just from the vaults no-fi stuff, it's the George Harassment LP, which contained some of my fave Homos material.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

I might, I might, the "support the artist and label" thing could swing it. I'll try to get hold of some of it to listen to and then make my mind up.

Oh No, It's Dadaismus (and His Endless Stupid Jokes) (Dada), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

... that's provided I can find a copy to buy anywhere!

Oh No, It's Dadaismus (and His Endless Stupid Jokes) (Dada), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

...but if you pick and choose to download, make sure you get Prestel, You're Not Moving, Nursery Chymes and In Search of the Perfect Baby, those are the two great singles. The rest of the material includes the George Harassment LP, the Vencerwemos cassette(featuring the majestic Mad Bombers of Major Valour) and from the vaults stuff.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 1 December 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

Disc 2 & 3 are great. The whole thing is worth owning.

mcd (mcd), Thursday, 1 December 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

Hyped2Death won't sell this to UK customers. Where do we get it from? The one Amazon is selling is a US import, I don't get it, what's the problem with H2D selling it?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 1 December 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Oh that is annoying. I didn't realize.

mcd (mcd), Thursday, 1 December 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

They sold me one and I was in the UK last time I checked.

Dr.C, Thursday, 1 December 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

(2) We apologize that H2D's arrangement with the Homosexuals does not currently permit us to sell "Astral Glamour" directly to the UK or Europe: please contact us for details and alternatives. Thanks for your understanding.

That's what it says on the website. Obv it's a load of lies then.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 1 December 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

That's what it says on the website. Obv it's a load of lies then.

what's more likely is that Hyped2Death is obeying their own contractual rules, while various distributors and stores are not. This happens all of the time. For instance, we have only US rights to Metal Urbain. After our CD came out, Seventeen, who we licensed from, released the 2CD Metal Urbain collection. Legally, we could sue anyone who sells that in America. More realistically, when I go to Mondo Kims I put the 2 CD behind our single CD.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 1 December 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

I take it just buying a copy in a shop is right out??!?!

Oh No, It's Dadaismus (and His Endless Stupid Jokes) (Dada), Thursday, 1 December 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

I've never seen a copy in any shops here!

Dan says: what's more likely is that Hyped2Death is obeying their own contractual rules

But Dr C says he bought a copy FROM Hyped2Death. So it's more likely they're just putting that on their website as some kind of disclaimer and are selling it anyway.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 2 December 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

Funny thing is I've got that Recommended Records' sampler with "Total Drop" on it - but I think I must have sat on it or something, 'cos it's cracked

Oh No, It's Dadaismus (and His Endless Stupid Jokes) (Dada), Friday, 2 December 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

But Dr C says he bought a copy FROM Hyped2Death. So it's more likely they're just putting that on their website as some kind of disclaimer and are selling it anyway.

The simple answer is to email Chuck and try to buy it!

That Recommended sampler, I think it's ReR 7.5 or 8.5, because the 2lp sampler that features Walk Before Imitate (and Faust and This Heat and the Work and Vogel and Art Bears and L Voag) was ReR 7 or 8.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 2 December 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

I've got the EP thing with Peter Blegvad's "Frenzy" (I love that track) and, errrrrrrrrrr, R. Stevie Moore I think - it's on clear vinyl with etchings on it and it's cracked, so therefore useless, but still looks nice, so that's something

Oh No, It's Dadaismus (and His Endless Stupid Jokes) (Dada), Friday, 2 December 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

That's what I'm talking about, it's the little brother of the 2xLP sampler. I bought it off eBay back when it was the only affordable way of hearing Total Drop. Looks great, plays great. May even taste great.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 2 December 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Unfortunately it's breakable too

there's a 2CD "homosexuals et al" comp floating around slsk. 52 songs, a fair number of which aren't on astral glamour or the homosexuals record. the last song is "sunshine girl". is this something that was released for sale at some point, or some dude's personal comp?

dan (dan), Thursday, 19 January 2006 23:26 (twenty years ago)

that was something I made. Basically what happened was, Johan Kugelberg made a CD of (then) rare Homos stuff for a uk writer named Richard Mason. At the end of the CD he included a 15 minute version of Rainy Day Sunshine Girl, a cover of the Faust song. This was performed by a band of Johan's. Sometime later Richard sent me a copy of the CD. Man was I excited to see the homos covering my favorite Faust song! It didn't even sound like the homos, but I wanted to believe it so bad! I took some tracks from the cd, some tracks that I had digitised myself, some stuff from other tapes and CDs people had sent me, some of the side-projects, and compiled a 2 CD set, much like I did for the Desperate Bicycles(you can read all about the ethics of that on a seperate ILX thread). I shared this CD with many people in the pre-Soulseek days. Hell, I didn't even have dial-up at that point. A few years later Chuck Warner finally asked Bruno about Rainy Day Sunshine Girl, and he said he had no idea about that, and it finally came up in conversation between Chuck and Johan and was cleared up.

My bad!

The songs on my compilation that aren't on Astral Glamour are most likely Jim/L Voag stuff like selections from Sara Goes Pop and such. Last I heard, that stuff will come out eventually. Some of it already has, no Homosexuals fan/completist should be without the L Voag CD The Way Out feat. the LP of that name and the Move single. It's on Alchohol records.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 20 January 2006 03:59 (twenty years ago)

haha dan i think i ended up with a copy of that somehow! possibly from another ilxor back in 2001.

It's Bruno backed by Apache Beat. I haven't seen that set-up, but it's probably good fun.

they were great last week in pdx. the band played well; pretty simple arrangements of most everything you'd want to hear off 'homosexuals record' plus surreal/hilarious/bemusing banter from bruno, who gave an interminable solo encore.

Not heard these guys but L. Voag/Xentos Bentos' radio show (as Harmon E Phraisyar) is one of the greatest things I've ever heard

one year passes...

Oh gawd "Astral Glamour" (the song) sounds sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good right now!!!!! I just love how almost imperceptibly they move from ominous to bursting with joy at "fair’s fair with barriers shining." They love it too as you can tell from their hooting immediately afterward. And is that a mandolin? Goddamn....just godDAMN!

twelve years pass...

just an update...had an extensive conversation with Bruno today. He has some stories. He was on John Allen's show on WFMU performing and talking, and I think he may be on Mike Goodstein's show this monday eve.

I just listed to one of those archive WFMU shows with Bruno. He is completely exhausting, with a torturous theory for almost everything and some very tall stories. Checking out fairly recent YouTubes, it seems that, almost 20 years on, he’s still very much like that. I’d really like to hear Anton’s account of the band.

He also told me in a DM that he didn't believe my husband really existed and I only pretended that he did to keep men away from me. The music's still wonderful, though, but I can't forgive him for that.
