dudes -- my only point was that its the kind of thing where u dont need a 'source' to identify these lyrics as anti-gay -- the proof is in the text & they could just say even something like 'boom bye bye is widely seen' if they needed to ... there's something 'kinda lol also sad' about the weird level of pretend-objectivity going on in that sentence

In no sense is this being an apologist, it's simply not being so shortsighted/condescending that I expect everyone to have the same viewpoints as me *at exacly the same time*. I assumed 'anthem' was supposed to be the operative word there? Like it's sufficiently notorious for its sentiments that the stigma attached to (eg) the fact he still performs the thing is far greater than any other anti-gay song to come out of Jamaica since... ever

Drug trafficking trial going on now.

A mistrial was declared in the drug conspiracy trial of reggae superstar Buju Banton. The Jamaican singer was facing charges including conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine. He has been in prison since last December and now faces a new trial that is set to begin in December. If convicted, Banton could face up to 20 years in prison. Banton's lawyer has asked that his client be granted bail. In a continuing trend, Banton's latest album, "Before the Dawn," was released on Monday while he was still behind bars.

Buju Banton Convicted Of Cocaine Dealing; Faces At Least 15 Years

Buju Banton has been convicted of conspiring to deal cocaine today, just a week after the Reggae singer snagged a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album.

A federal jury deliberated for 11 hours during Buju Banton's retrial for his role in setting up a sale of five kilos of cocaine to an undercover officer in a Miami warehouse during an undercover operation by the DEA.

The singer was caught on videotape testing cocaine in a Sarasota warehouse in December of 2008, although he wasn't present during the actual drug deal, which took place two-days later.

According to the Associated Press, Buju, 37, was found guilty of three of the four charges and now faces at least 15 years in prison, when he is sentenced.

The popular singer, who's album Before the Dawn just won a Grammy Award, is already planning an appeal of the conviction.

His lawyer, David Markus, claims that the reggae singer was a big talker who wasn't involved in the drug deal.

Ironically, the confidential informant who audiotaped and videotaped Buju during the alleged drug deal, earned a $50,000 commission for his role in the undercover sting conducted by the DEA.

Buju is expected to make bond until his sentencing date, which has not been scheduled.
