As always, Bumbershoot lineups trigger the big "....WTF... well then...um....".

cinnamon shitzu (donut), Monday, 19 July 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

updated lineup at www.bumbershoot.org... which is different than the non-updated www.bumbershoot.com site for some weird reason.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 19 July 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

now all this thread is missing is some troll to criticize it.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 19 July 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

db thank you for posting this as i needed to see this line-up for work purposes and the bumbershoot website/press release is ugly and unreadable.

jess, Monday, 19 July 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

the lineup seems to be swirling around chaotically.. like, acts are switching days, being added, or being dropped on a daily basis... so jess, be forewarned... the true lineup is in there somewhere.

bavarian cream pekingese (donut), Monday, 19 July 2004 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

well, i'm going. How's PE live?

Symplistic (shmuel), Monday, 19 July 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

either I'm changing or Bumbershoot's changing. from '98-'02, there were a good 20 bands that I'd want to see each year, but on that list I'd only go for American Music Club(WOW!) and maybe Death Cab for Cutie for old times sake.

derrick (derrick), Monday, 19 July 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, my recent experience with Bumbershoot suggests that its probably BETTER if you only want to see a couple of bands per day. Its so damn hard to get from show to show now that I prefer to pick one or two that I really want to see, and just send the rest of the day eating corndogs, looking at art, drinking lemonade, and gawking.

So much less stress that way.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Monday, 19 July 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Scott OTM. My overly optimistic Saturday itinerary should be something like AMC -> Brother Ali -> Drive-By Truckers -> Robyn Hitchcock. Sunday and Monday are mostly about the headliners, and I'll do some wandering the rest of those days.

Symplistic (shmuel), Monday, 19 July 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Well keep in mind that headlining acts like Pixies or Nas are going to require lining up earlier that day to get special wristbands to see them, so there's always a chance you might have to forgo an earlier show in case you want to see the headliner that day. that's usually the thing most first-time bumbershooters don't realize and then they miss the reason they came to the festival and get really pissed off.

strawberry frosted dachsund (donut), Monday, 19 July 2004 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

DB OTM.

Obviously, the Pixies show is going to be particularly nuts. Depending on how bad you want to get in and how close you want to stand, I would recommend getting in line at least an hour or two before the gates open.

Also, you will need to be there early in the morning to get a wristband. If you show up on Monday afternoon, I can't imagine you will get a bracelet. Er, I mean, wristband.

This is yet another reason not to try to cram in too many acts; you must make room for the line-standing.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Monday, 19 July 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to the stadium my first year (forget the band) and have passed on the headliners ever since, no matter how enticing. The lineups, the crappy stadium, and the horrid crowds are no good.

My biggest problem last time was the growth of drum circles, actually. There seemed to be a couple stationary ones, plus several moving drum lines that would invariably disrupt every outdoor act I wanted to see. It got old really fast.

I've seen a lot of good shows, though.. Sleater Kinney, Elliott Smith, Mark Eitzel, Kristin Hersh, Cibo Matto.. plus getting to see acts like Henry Rollins for nearly free, and not feeling bad about drifting away after several songs.

derrick (derrick), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 05:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Take out Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd and I love me some of this lineup.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I love me some Frankfurters

yes even more!, Friday, 23 July 2004 06:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'd be there on Monday morning if I wanted to see the Pixies. Wristbands were gone by noon last year for R.E.M., who play, er, somewhat more frequently . . .

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 23 July 2004 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, holier-than-thou hipsters, it's time to make fun of my enthusiasm.

I meant at first to say
Beta Band Beta Band Beta Band Beta Band Beta Band

until I read The Killers.

The Killers? Really? The Killers are coming? WTF? The Killers The Killers The Killers The Killers The Killers!

or do I mean Beta Band Beta Band Beta Band Beta Band Beta Band Beta Band?

Bimble (bimble), Friday, 23 July 2004 07:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm hoping that it's sunny this year- I always go with my dog, which means pretty much only sitting-on-the-grass concerts for us. Makes for a nice weekend, though.

lyra (lyra), Saturday, 24 July 2004 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
whoo!

Symplistic (shmuel), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 01:15 (twenty-one years ago)

things that rocked: kiki and herb, brother ali, drive-by truckers, robyn hitchcock, public enemy, toots and the maytals, the pixies

things that were sort of disappointing: koko taylor, nancy sinatra, pedro the lion, liz phair, crooked fingers, nas

things that i didn't know very well but enjoyed watching: nick lowe, built to spill

anyone else go?

Symplistic (shmuel), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi Sym. i have decided to make you that mix cd, but only becuz i want to get in your pants.

i agree with your review of bumbershoot. except that i quite liked pedro the lion. kiki and herb was by far the best. it's interesting how much better sat. was than the other days.

the walkmen were very good also.

i saw a band called the fitness. they were terrible hipster bullshit.
