In recent threads re: psytrance etc, i began to start thinking abuot ibiza before the rise of acid house. A bohemian high-society mdma culture i presume, with roots in psychedelic trance-rock? and what about edm? marc almond? genesis p orridge?

Apparently the followers of osho were big in ibiza before the rise of acid house using mdma and getting into a lot of that fun free love business.

and, how predominantly english were the people going to ibiza during this period, i have a feeling it was more transnational eurogeois bohemia, than purely english at this point, etc

I think it goes back a lot further than that. I thought I read somewhere that Aleister Crowley lived there or visited or something (maybe I imagined that or am confusing it with another place in the Mediterranean because I can't find any obvious confirmation of it on Google, but if true that would tie directly in to Genesis P. Orridge and loosely to the psychedelic '60s thing). But there's a long standing Brit bohemian connection, I think.

Yes 'transnational eurogeois bohemia' heh

Loathesome trendies went to island of ?Formentera? (where they shot 'Sex and Lucia') or something more than Ibiza in the 60s. Vile beyond words.

Formentera is vile? I don't understand.

people enjoying themselves in general is vile, i think

'sex and lucia' was ridiculous.

was there a west coast USA - Ibiza connection in the 70s/early 80s? I'm sure I read about some Californian artist communes being set up there?

Lovely place, lovely drugs; vile, moneyed hippies.

I got confused. It was Sicily I was thinking of wrt Aleister Crowley

doesn't Bowie make reference to Ibiza in the lyrics to "Life on Mars"? surely it wasn't a random word association there...
