I bet Total Request Live would be way more watchable...

You would rather watch middle-aged new wavers do the robot than rap honeys work that thang? You need help.

Huck, Tuesday, 20 July 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

The world would be a place where decent lyrics mattered no more.
Where 2 good albums were followed by 4 bad ones.
Dull conservatism would rule.

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:31 (twenty-one years ago)

somehow i feel like robin carmody would probably have a lot to say on this thread.

amateur!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah but think of all the fucking sweet dance moves..

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever wish the world had taken the bandname "New Order" literally and Ron Asheton &co. ruled the entire universe?

Me neither.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever wish the world had taken the bandname "Los Diablos" literally and Satan &co. ruled the entire universe?

Huck, Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

do you ever wish that the world had taken the bandname "strawberry alarm clock" literally and... what does that mean anyway?

amateur!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there a hermeneutics of the Strawberry Alarm Clock?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever wish the world had taken the bandname "los lobos" literally and everyone got eaten alive by a gigantic pack of wolves?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I took Los Lobos literally and thought those dudes were big University of New Mexico baseketball fans.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

dang, pwn3d by my lack of u.s. sports knowledge!!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

brush up!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously, though, new order is TEH R0X0RZ

I've been listening to Low-life a lot since I borrowed it from a friend- fucking great.

Richard K (Richard K), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

It's kind of unfortunate that the album versions of "The Perfect Kiss" and "Sub-culture" are completely unlistenable and ruin the entire package for me because otherwise this would be their best album.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:14 (twenty-one years ago)

hi Dan! how goes it?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll side with Dan on that one. I believe there's a story about the band staying up mixing those two songs for 48 hours straight in order to complete the album. This would help explain things.

Do ever wish the world had taken the bandname "Suicide" seriously, and ... oh, never mind.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It's going, stence. Slowly but surely, it's going.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"dang, pwn3d by my lack of u.s. sports knowledge!!"

I have no problem with it if so, but do the English really say "dang"?

Just change the effing world to "The Cure" and we can all live forever

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever wish the world had taken the bandname "Joy Division" literally and spread love and cheer throughout the lands under the smiling eyes of Ian Curtis?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 20 July 2004 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"The name Joy Division is a reference to groups of Jewish women in the concentration camps during WWII who were used as prostitutes by the Nazis, as described in Karol Cetinsky's 1955 book, The House of Dolls."

amateur!st (amateurist), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever wish the Nazis had taken the term "Joy Division" literally and Jewish women forced into prostitution ruled the entire universe?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 20 July 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

erm, not so much prostitutes as sex slaves. payment was not forthcoming.

paulhw (paulhw), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever wish the world had taken the bandname "Dogs Die In Hot Cars" literally and...erm...never mind.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, when I was on lithium, my brain dreamed up this bizarre fantasy/hallucination/delusion whereby Bernard Sumner was the Supreme Being of the Universe and communicated with me via "barneywaves".

Phew! Was I glad when that was over. I mean, I love New Order and all, but that was whackadoo. So, erm, no. I'm quite glad that they didn't.

Ma$onic Boom (kate), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought you liked KRS-One.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

hi Ned!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Woohoo Ned! On my thread no less! (I'm a Raggett fan)

Richard K (Richard K), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, when I was on lithium, my brain dreamed up this bizarre fantasy/hallucination/delusion whereby Bernard Sumner was the Supreme Being of the Universe and communicated with me via "barneywaves".

I had a dream lastnight that I was hanging out with Pauline Kael, and she took me to see Empire Strikes Back in New York, and we bonded. I've never even read a Pauline Kael review.

Richard K (Richard K), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

BARNEYWAVES IS THE MOST BRILLIANT HING I'VE EVER HEARD!!1

Sonny A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

This has got to be THE funniest thing I've ever read.

Did you all read on DJ Martian's page that Hooky said the new album is due in March '05!?! WOOOOHOOOOO!

Bimble (bimble), Wednesday, 21 July 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

Everywhere I go I'm hearing New Order. What's going on?

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 4 August 2008 16:17 (seventeen years ago)

World conquest, at last.

^poll potential!

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 4 August 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

We can only hope. I mean, how bad would it be?

I think it's partly the Indisit advert which I keep seeing and every time I think - 'hey that sounds like Barney' and then I realise it is and I really do quite like the WFTSC album after all. And I should listen to it more.

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 4 August 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

xp

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 4 August 2008 16:20 (seventeen years ago)

You mean, "Bass guitar is the new lead guitar"?
