there was a big redesign a few weeks ago... perhaps your browser can't handle the awesome indieness of the after dinner mint + asphalt color scheme.

how can it be a browser error though? it would just say "page cannot be displayed. This is da internet thinking it doesn't exist or something.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 22 July 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

because internet explorer can't resolve it

try pinging it

start, run

ping www.pitchforkmedia.com

see if it resolves the name there

y'know, I used to work for an ISP only a few months back. I must have totally forced back any memories of what I learnt there. Thanks Jon.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 22 July 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

any luck, did it resolve the hostname in PING?

I CAN LEAD YOU THROUGH THE ZONE (ex machina), Thursday, 22 July 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

alan r. banana (alanbanana), Thursday, 22 July 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't been able to access the site, either. You're not alone in this, dog latin. It just times out with both my browers, IE Mac and Safari. What gives?

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

works for me. today, they've uh....sonned the new Badly Drawn Boy with a 3.0.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

In IE: "A connection failure has occurred"
In Safari: "Could not open the page "http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/" after trying for 60 seconds.

This has been going on for a couple weeks. Any ideas, anyone?

perhaps your ISP is trying to keep your IQ from sinking?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Upgrade your internets

gwilx (ex machina), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

David A I have Safari and pitchfork loaded fine. You might want to try dling the new version i fyou haven't because I was having problems before i did occasionally.

oh xpost

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

rentboy, haha.

And tks, Chris. I probably need to upgrade OS X though before I can dl the new Safari. But none of this explains why I can't access the site on either browser, especially since I can go anywhere else I please on the interweb.

I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else, or just to me and dog latin?

David A. (Davant), Thursday, 22 July 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i tried it at home and it worked. all other stuff i browse on at work seem fine, even soulseek. i'm pretty sure pitchfork worked a few weeks back.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 23 July 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

peter smith (plsmith), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

four weeks pass...
So is it not working for anybody else now?

I also haven't been able to access largeheartedboy for a week or so...

Anonymous pitchfork reader, Monday, 23 August 2004 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Try clearing your cookies. I was curious after reading this post so I tried pinging the site and it times out for me as well though I can access the site just fine.

Reed Rosenberg (reed), Monday, 23 August 2004 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

they're all moving to college!

In direct defiance of Animal Collective's orders? I think not.

nabiscothingy, Monday, 23 August 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

If only _Sung Tongs_ came out 5 years ago! I'd have less grey hair! And more money! Damn you, Avey Tare & Panda Bear!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 23 August 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I cleared my cookies, temp. files, and history didn't work (but thanks for the suggestion).

I think I may need to call my ISP, as this has only been a problem since I switched to DSL. Apparently we're right at the edge of their coverage, so that might be a factor.

Anon. Pitchfork Reader, Monday, 23 August 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

the web has an edge?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Monday, 23 August 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah it doesn't work for me either.

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Monday, 23 August 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't ping the nameservers either, that's funny. It may just be a problem with the hosting of the site.

Reed Rosenberg (reed), Monday, 23 August 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"the web has an edge?"

Haha, well apparently there's parts of Ottawa that can't get DSL service for whatever reason, and we're just inside the part that can. I'm a law guy, not a techie, so I just nod and say "uh huh" when people try to explain this stuff to me.

There's other stuff not working for me now. I just started reading Shakey, and a couple of Neil Young sites have become inaccessible in the past day.
