Great albums that should not be heard under random play conditions, ever

I'm a huge fan of the Random Play Button. Nevertheless, there are certain classic albums that I *never* disgrace with random play, because they "deserve" to be heard in their proper order, blah blah blah.

This question is inspired by what I'm listening to right now -- "Disintegration" on random play -- and I'm quite sure that some people out there would consider this to be sacrilege.

It's not a matter of certain albums being "too good" for random play. There are plenty of albums in my inner pantheon that get the RP treatment all the time, but these are some of the no-no's:

Orbital -- In Sides
Spiritualized -- Pure Phase
Plastikman -- Closer
Labradford -- fixed:context

(and many more)

You?

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

wait wait - i misunderstood - i thought you meant disc shuffle, in which case super ae might freak the party out with its high frequencies.

umm, anything with song snippets. that indexed version of faust tapes, for example.

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

peter i thought the same thing. oops.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

prince's lovesexy. cuz if you put that into shuffle, it'll play the whole freakin' thing before moving on to the next song.

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

wait. i misunderstood too. but i bet prince had this in mind when he decided to make lovesexy one track. "no one should ever disgrace this with random play. i'll make it all one track."

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:11 (twenty-one years ago)

"We're Only In It For the Money" by the Mothers of Invention

Wooden, Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i would never listen to just ONE album on shuffle.

however, i think ipod on shuffle is the greatest thing ever.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 July 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I should clarify -- I did mean *one* disc only with its tracks played in a random order.

Although I suppose the question could also apply to several discs with all their tracks played randomly too.
