What are some of your own examples of this happening?

And the harmonica in the background of "Dub Be Good to Me" by Beats International is from the score to "Once Upon a Time in the West"

Having never heard MMM, I had no idea it was sampled until it I heard it on the American Masters Lou Reed bio in 1998.

You realize that the bassline is from the Clash's "Guns of Brixton", right?

On the subject of John Barry - Acen's "Trip II the Moon Part I" samples a bit of the score from You Only Live Twice.

The bassline is played by Cook though, not sampled (maybe the harmonica is too, dunno)

Is that so? Remarkable! Don't know if I woulda recognized that myself even if I was at all familiar with that Music Machine song; but "How I..." was also the source of a completely DIFFERENT sample that I likewise didn't recognize for a long time. I already told this story on a similar thread some months ago, so once again: As of a coupla years ago, I'd listened to "How I Could Just Kill A Man" about (I'm guessing) 200 times and Hendrix' "Are You Experienced?" 1000 times (another guess), but it wasn't until the 1001st listening that (assisted by cannabis and headphones) I realized that Cypress Hill took their little psych-guitar hook from Hendrix's backwards solo, two seconds worth and they slowed it down a bit.
Also, this isn't exactly the same but it's timely. Reading the "Eno: C or D" thread a few days ago inspired me to play Tiger Mountain for the first time in years. And imagine my surprise to suddenly realize that the tune being whistled in "Back In Judy's Jungle" was in fact that well known "Bridge Over The River Kwai" theme. How could I have missed that? Even the lyrics describe a scenario similar to that of the film!

(the cypress hill/music machine sample is only for about 8 seconds, starting at 2:42. but it still freaked me out when i heard the music machine song.)

Hearing Wattstax for the first ever time, after years listening and listening and listening to Nation Of Millions, was a revelation.
