i like this album a lot, i think its their best one

elber (gareth), Sunday, 25 July 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Completely classic and unjustly overlooked. People get so hung up on the band's attitude etc. and miss how great/weird the songs on Dial "M" are. Abrupt starts and stops all over the place executed like they actually practiced, catchy choruses, guitar parts that are much more interesting than you might think, and the usual innovative drumming. Even the instrumental tracks are worthwhile.

I loved it then and was surprised at how well it's held up. The original Caroline CD, btw, came with the b-sides of that Yu Gung single and I'll bet it's cheap since the Matador reissue.

it's no Historia de La Musica Rock or Right Now! (but better than Exile and Sugarshit Sharp)

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

No Hagerty = No Interest. Wait, no, I actually wouldn't mind hearing the Sugarshit Sharp EP again. The album after this (when the Hag came back), the one nobody paid attention to, the one that Matador didn't even bother to reissue (that Historia de la Musica Rock one), is FAR AND AWAY my favorite Pussy Galore record. It's like the Godz 2 of its generation.

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Neil not on Dial "M"? (not that it really matters, since it's a great album, but I thought he was.)

Trouser Press re Historia: "more under-rehearsed ersatz grunge played by a trio of Spencer, Hagerty and Bert." Nice cover art, though.

dlp9001, Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, you could say that Godz 2 was under-rehearsed, too, of course!

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Hagerty's not on Dial M or Sugarshit Sharp.

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hold the presses, I was wrong. Hagerty's on Dial M. Sorry, peeps. Still wasn't really fond of this album.

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I like all their albums.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Where is my Pussy Galore box-set, by the way?

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

And where is my deluxe dvd collection?

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 25 July 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd probably rather listen to it right now than the early EPs or Exile or the posthumous live album on In the Red. So, I guess maybe it's my fourth favorite PG record.

Tim Ellison, Sunday, 25 July 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

i think the little instrumentally pieces are great too!

elber (gareth), Sunday, 25 July 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The album title is great, the music is just ok.

earlnash, Sunday, 25 July 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The only PG I have is that "Corpse Love" comp of singles and early stuff. Aside from one or two tracks, thirteen year-old me hated it, and I've barely listened to it since. I recall it sounding like it was recorded in a sock.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Monday, 26 July 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sock technology had improved somewhat by the time they recorded "Dial M."

dlp9001, Monday, 26 July 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i like all their albums

Dial 'M' for More of the Same

I found it disappointing, except the poster.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd probably rather listen to it right now than the early EPs or Exile or the posthumous live album on In the Red

Now c'mon, you said "No Hagerty = No Interest" then knock almost everything he played on. Just say you only like Right Now!

I'll say classic, but I haven't listened to it in years. I listened to Historia on the weekend and it wasn't as good as I remembered it being, so it's possible Dial 'M' falls into that category.

Vic Funk, Monday, 26 July 2004 11:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, a Hagerty track like "Walk" would be the main reason I'd put on a record like Pussy Gold 5000 or whatever that one was right now. Historia is my favorite!

Tim Ellison, Monday, 26 July 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

a Hagerty track like "Walk" would be the main reason I'd put on a record like Pussy Gold 5000 or whatever that one was right now.

There's an extended version of it on Corpse Love.
