leonard cohen wants nothing to due with the new box set and doesn't think it's really that necessary

I'd worry for the sanity of anyone that chooses FDSN here.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 July 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought the 50 cent album was quite good, perhaps there is not enough beyond the three or four best tracks though. "in da club" poss the year's best single, though, and thusly adds on quite a few points to 50. i like his drawled delivery too.

but dom otm, dmx is on another plain of excellence! "and then there was x..." one of the greatest albums of all time, no question. a real tour de force - the troubled melancholy, the guilt, the violence - some great productions, too. "one more road to cross" the greatest swizz beats track. the contradictions between dmx's spiritual/religious side and his violence are not just *present* on the record they are *addressed* and quite thouroughly too(see "The professional"). and "what's my name?" - wow! i have "flesh of my flesh..." as well and it's good, but not quite as mind-blowing.

50's good, but this is not a difficult choice.

I'd say DMX because he has two of my favourite albums and worked with my favourite ever producer, but 50 is undoubtedly a better MC.

i spent some vouchers i got as a present today and decided to pick up a (rather pricey) copy of "the great depression". i think this gets more love from ilm than any of the other dmx albums so i await eagerly...
