this song strikes me as pretty wack. Like dub-step w/ an MC.

OCP (OCP), Monday, 26 July 2004 06:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it. Those strings! London rims have about 7" to go before they catch up to LA, though.

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 26 July 2004 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

ggood song, good video. i like.

thesplooge (thesplooge), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

everytime i see dizzee on tv, i feel like saying 'east london represent!'

they showed this vid on cd:uk, not that the panel even discussed it....

thesplooge (thesplooge), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Superb!

This should have been the Euro 2004 song for England...

Jacob (Jacob), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

that video is a bit rubbish. whys that woman kicking over chairs? i like the idea of this being such a out and out "my name is dizzee rascal - hello america. look at this london taxi etc". but i think fix up look sharp worked better as a party tune. still, good to see youngstar being rescued from oblivion. maybe everyoens gonna start making 2 step beats now?!?!?!

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Filmed in Atlanta...

OCP (OCP), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i like that taxi now

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 26 July 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Boy's looking less like a teenager, more like a MAN

broken twig, Monday, 26 July 2004 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

aw he's so cute!!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 26 July 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The song is terrific!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it more than anything of Boy in the Corner, oddly enough! I think it's because of the chorus and the string bits.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

This should have been the Euro 2004 song for England...

Either that or Wiley's 'Who Ate All The Pies?', which also had its video directed by super-genius Ruben Fleischer.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh man that's a good song I think. The car is neato.

Dan I, Monday, 26 July 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe everyoens gonna start making 2 step beats now

That beat's not even 2-step though... more like old old house... like to house what Fix Up was to hip-hop...

I like it OK but it doesn't have the impact/crunch of the first album. Nice that he's doing a fun tune tho

bugged out, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds a bit hollow compared to most of Boy in Da Corner.
The video is lame as fuck, but good to see Dizzee anyway.

Marcus Barr (Marcus Barr), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Either that or Wiley's 'Who Ate All The Pies?', which also had its video directed by super-genius Ruben Fleischer.

I really think Ruben's videos are pretty lame (although I've seen a couple of his commercials that I was rather impressed by). What makes you think he's a "super genius"?

OCP (OCP), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

That beat's not even 2-step though... more like old old house... like to house what Fix Up was to hip-hop...

like dub-step meets 'urban house', I think.

OCP (OCP), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

kids today... no sense of history...

bugged out, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

That song is great! It would sound great on the radio too. Can he be famous yet?

spittle (spittle), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Can't stand the video - it's too bleached-out and... well, generic, the club scenes at the end esp. I expected something, I dunno, less khaki. Less gap-advert. Less 'and here is the bit where we look like any given us hiphop video from trhee years ago'. Song seems aright, tho, need to listen more to get opinion beyond '...I should really listen to Boy In Da Corner again.'

cis (cis), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmm i like the wiley video. its way better than the new dizzee rascal, but looking at the ruben site, i remembered that the "fix up look sharp" video is amazing! didnt everyone hate on that when it came out? that si better than either of em really.

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:25 (twenty-one years ago)

what the hell!! fix up look shawp video is AWFUL!

Ade (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

he offered helpfully

Ade (Adrian Langston), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it just Youngstar redoing Pulse X again? (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Rob McD (Rob McD), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

keith mcd not rob mcd

Keith McD (Rob McD), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 09:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah it is, which is great cos like i said else where there weren't many Pulse X vocal dubs. I love this song loads, but new lyrics Diz, please.

scg, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

it's cute he wants to be american but the scenes with the women gyrating around him and the pole. urgh. the song's great but doesn't have the same impact as the previous singles.

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

LOL he wears Ecko he MUST want to be an American

scg, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm still amazed at "pulse x" currency. its like if people were still fucking with "can i get a" or something.

jess, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i still haven't been able to hear this tho :-(

jess, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer the b-side 'Give U More' - Dizzee & D Double together at last! "Gimme some of dat grimey sublow eski eight baw!". It's nothing new though

Keith McD (Rob McD), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a funny little 8-bit sample in one of the backing tracks, about 1.30 into the song. It sounds like it's from an NES game, but I can't pin-down which one. Am I hallucinating?

j.e.r.e.m.y (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear that, it sounds k-like something from the OG NES Dragon Warrior.

So yeah, I love the fuck out of this video and song. He seems a little more relaxed and confident here than he did on the majority of BIDC.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i still haven't been able to hear this tho :-(

I have it, jess, get it from me. So so b-side with D Double, a Youngstar remix, and an acapella which I am tempted to fuck around with in GarageBand.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, I am going to "mash" it up with this old Brainiac b-side.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

winky winky

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Not that I don't love a certain someone's Jay Z/Stereolab love-in.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i like when they rub his belly in the wiley video

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(he said faux-naively)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the "Pies" video okay but the little clip for "Treddin' On Thin Ice" with the white limo and the neon font is just fucking awful.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a horrible bias against British music video directors.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

There, I said it.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the dizzee video too! it's very nicely-lit, especially in the club scene, especially the shot of him in the booth

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The diner scene makes me think of the video for "Milkshake" but without those ridiculously hot waitresses. And therefore not as good.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

milkshake, there was a poorly-lit (but hawt) video

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a horrible bias against British music video directors.

he's American.

OCP (OCP), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

That's as may be, but he directs just like a Brit.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay you get me.

By the way, I have m4a radio rips (from Semtex) of some of the new Dizzee and Roll Deep stuff in my slsk folder if anyone's desperate to hear.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

yesh... be on later?

x j e r e m y (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to work, but I'll leave it on all day.

I'm in the ILM room and my name, if you didn't already know, starts with "n".

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

and ends in "ordicskilla".

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

That's as may be, but he directs just like a Brit.

what does that mean?

OCP (OCP), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Means he takes hourlong breaks in the afternoon to make his goddamn 'tea' like the rest of you limeys.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)
