you know, i think the whole "classic or dud" thing is silly. but it's up on soulseek already, so let's have at it.

(and it's not out until SEPTEMBER?! that's like MONTHS, man.)

also, someone please tell me track 13 is a cover of the sarcofago song "black vomit." please.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

new "dead in a boat" answers.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i think "urine burn" is their tribute to every intro on every morbid angel album ever.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i love "village oblivia"

roger adultery (roger adultery), Monday, 26 July 2004 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

seconds on the "village oblivia" sounds like a really fucked up dub track....

brock (brock), Monday, 26 July 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Wolf Eyes love dub

George W. ILX (ex machina), Monday, 26 July 2004 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The promo has a quote on the back from Thurston Moore calling this album "the best Sub Pop release since 'Touch Me I'm Sick'"

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Monday, 26 July 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

thurston moore quotes = duds

Wolf Eyes in "Eddytor's Dozen" (Village Voice pick) shockah!

Haven't seen any official reviews for this yet, but from some quarters that are praising it, it almost seems like it's more (gulp) "accessible" than some of their other stuff. I'm very intrigued.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the pacing of it, how there's a short instrumental breather followed for the most part by a heavy song with yelling. Friends of mine hate this album because it sounds like Ministry; I have no such qualms. The last song's beat is great, esp., like a glitched-up take on The Bug-type distorto-dancehall.

craig dunsmuir, Wednesday, 29 September 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm confused with the tracklist ? I have the 13 track vers but there are only 9 titles. "Village Oblivia" and #9 are fucking storming, regardless

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

classic, it's evil-sounding in all the right ways.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

it sounded goofy to me.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

heaviest sub pop release since tad.

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

was that your "leak"?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

and let's just pretend you never heard earth.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

noize dude in disdaining fat joke shocker!!

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

next thing you know i'll say "fag" and get chided

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 29 September 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

the screaming trees put an ep out on sub pop during the Tad era and they outweight the Tad band by a good quarter ton.

ps: jess, you might want to make your "jokes" funny in the future.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

three hours and that's the comeback? for shame.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

keep reaching for the stars tho, gyg.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all right, you and i both know that "leak" comment smarted.

;-D

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

actually i didn't know what that meant.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

oh wait, i think i remember now.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

haha the best thing about that is that the editor killed that review because "we don't think Wolf Eyes are worth the space", oops!

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

(i do like this album.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It reminds me of Metallica.

why do old people and old users of ILX such bastardos (deangulberry), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:43 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean in it's awesome-ness? yes I agree

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i dig it.

sub pop been on a roll, yo.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 30 September 2004 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

when i first downloaded and started listening to it, it made me want to listen to sodom and kreator. immediately afterward. it sounds nothing like ministry.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Thursday, 30 September 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

wait'll you read the Wire cover story. Something, err, happened during it that'll make it one of the best articles in the magazine's history. Pure presskit gold. That's all I can say.

notme (roger adultery), Thursday, 30 September 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Vice slammed the shit out of it. Their loss. This album SLAYS.

Reed Rosenberg (reed), Thursday, 30 September 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

wolf eyes are on the cover of The Wire?!

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 30 September 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

once again the wire stumbles in, dashingly sweeps it's forelock back in place and charmingly mutters, "err, sorry, did i miss anything?"

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Thursday, 30 September 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Surprised to see Heather Phares giving a strong review to this at AMG. I should give this a more in-depth listen later tonight.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 1 October 2004 19:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i enjoyed it, but I gotta admit my mind kept remixing in dance beats. stuff that survives on "texture" tend to get that treatment internally.

manthony m1cc1o (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 1 October 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I just listened to it for the first time. Consider me owned.

billstevejim, Thursday, 7 October 2004 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"So I was curious as to how long Burned Mind would be without the blank tracs, so I added them up in decimal form (4.32,1.32 and 1.02 or something like that),because I'm bad at adding time, and found out that the decimal answer is:

6.66
Then I got really excited and felt kind of like that person who first played Dark Side of the Moon with Wizard of Oz or something, except cooler.

Those silly boys."

amon (eman), Monday, 15 August 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

what's the lineup?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 August 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

Haven't heard the records. Great live act - pretty much early TG/CV and with Swans slo-mo riffing on top, but put together with the love and care of a contemporary rockabilly act, combined with an absolute determination to rock the house tonite, which was both charming and utterly alien to their sources.

I'd like to see them with Anthony Braxton. Didn't believe the stories 'bout that till I saw the pix in Wire.

Soukesian, Monday, 15 August 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

gygax - prob olson, young, connelly. dillo isn't touring any more. would be interesting to see them at merc lounge because the sound there's usually pretty good (better than most nyc clubs anyway). supposedly they're playing some brooklyn junkyard show in early sept. too.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

PRURIENT SUX LIVE. AND HIS MORE POWER ELECTRONICS RECORDINGS ALSO SUCK.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

connelly. dillo isn't touring any more.

all i need to know! thanks.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

yeah it isn't the same without dillo but if i can get into a show free here and there, i might go anyway.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 15 August 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

Can someone from Lansing help me out with how Wolf Eyes is playing Mac's Bar? Wolk? Has that place changed that much since I lived there?

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

i'm not sure i understand the importance of the lineup. but then i've never seen them before

amon (eman), Tuesday, 16 August 2005 00:51 (twenty years ago)

Y'know, If we would have started rocking against Bush in, say, 2001 instead on 9 months before the election...

Kerry would be prez and "Stabbed In The Face" would be our generation's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

Sigh.

Prurient is amazing live, btw. Pure arrythmic catharsis.

Absolute Rubbish, February 2, 2005

By Brendan (Kingston, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews

This doesn't deserve any stars. This is not music and should not pass for music. It's noise. Awful noise. I'm not just saying that - preview the songs on this page if you don't believe me. Actually, don't be bothered. If you can appreciate this, there is nothing else left in the world for you to appreciate, because you've gone through any and all musical tones from every living or abstract thing and have ended up at WOLF EYES. I'd love to meet you if you've bought this album and disagree with me - I'll come visit you in your room with your rubber walls and nice white jacket.

Not that bad of a description, actually.

mehlt, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 04:15 (seventeen years ago)

Haha as much as I really like Burned Mind, if I saw that sentence within a glowing review I would be a lot more o_0 than I am now

Lurker of Challops (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 6 January 2009 09:40 (seventeen years ago)

well yeah it kind of sounds like it could have been written by byron coley and meant in a good way

I don't understand that bit about rubber walls.

I think he meant padded walls

I should mention I like Wolf Eyes also.

also, is that an amazon review?

Fucking ILX machine wouldn't let me put "you've gone through any and all musical tones from every living or abstract thing and have ended up at WOLF EYES" as username.

(insert I "get" Wolf Eyes JPEG here)

Pain don't hurt. (Pillbox), Tuesday, 6 January 2009 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

nothing to get tho, just kind of harrowing to endure and in that sense potentially cathartic. that said, i listened to it once when i had to drive around the the totally dystopic harbourfront of hamilton, ontario and it made a certain amount of sense.

rent, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 17:51 (seventeen years ago)

Oh that was just a reference to a JPEG which tends to pop up on Wolf Eyes threads sooner or later, the subject of which (I believe) is Betty from Saturday Looks Good to Me. As a longtime observer of Ann Arbor-based musics, it never fails to impress me how widespread the Wolf Eyes love has become, esp. over the last five years or so. I mean, yeah, it's great - I just never would have predicted it.
