just got it.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

the first track sounds like simon and garfunkel.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

has this already been out for a month?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I've had it for two months. Me love. As if you didn't already know, Im a huge fan. Tracks 5 and 12 feature Feist from Broken Social Scene, very nice indeed.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

the last song is probably the best.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Kings of Convenience in sounding like Simon & Garfunkel shocker! I just heard about this, and was wondering how much Oye's recent electronic adventures would have any impact on what the duo is up to: I assume none at all, then?

nabiscothingy, Monday, 26 July 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

One song is a bit dancey... "I'd rather dance with you", reminds me of A-ha.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

not much electronics on the album at all.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

oops, sorry then, I'm a dumbass and astralwerks needs to get me promo copies NOT a month after street date. Oh well, it didn't have a thread yet.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

this doesn't have a single bit of electronics on it. I'm not even sure the guitars are amplified.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

thank god, because Oyes solo album was shite.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, "I'd Rather Dance With You" is definitely dance-influenced, if not wholly electronic. Although one of 'em (don't know which) sounds disturbingly like Dolores O'Riordan in the chorus (probably in the way the word "rather" is pronounced "rah-ther").

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Also the street date was today teeny, i nicked a copy off of slsk two months ago.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 26 July 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"misread" is the best track they've ever released and "the build up" has a lovely unresolved feeling about the chords. the rest seem like more of the same to me but that's fine in any case.

phil turnbull (philT), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The album cover is very Belle & Sebastian-ish.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

the new harper lee is the kings of convenience(sorta, they are not as dull) mixed with new order(sorta), it will be the greatest thing ever(sorta). this koc is better than the first one but that's not a huge compliment, they seem terminally sedate.

keith m (keithmcl), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always felt that with Belle and Sebastian out there, not to mention Nick Drake and Chad and Jeremy, to bother with KOC seems a little redundant.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Video for I'd Rather Dance With You...featuring Eiriks gorgeous gf at the end.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

KOC can do no wrong for me. Their show at the ICA last month was very charming and musically more adventurous than you might think from a couple of blokes strumming acoustic guitars. Norwegian seems like a top language, too. I was also comforted to see that Erlend, for all his flirtations with techno, was inept on the decks.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"KOC can do no wrong for me."

Love these guys - I still play the hell out of "Quiet Is The New Loud", and I can't wait for the new album to show up in Canada.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

But do you let them get away with sub-par lyrics because they're ESL?

I think I do.

Jacobo, Wednesday, 28 July 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

my fave album this year up till now. nothing spectacular. everything is very calm. harmonic, melodic, soothing. a grower. oye mainly whispers his vocals but his voice is so much in front of the mix. it is weird when i listen to the music on headphones his voice almost tickles my ears. there is not one bad song on the cd. though in the second half it gets slightly weaker.

the duo with feist at teh end is very nice too. apparently she has an album out where she is almost singing a cappella. there is music (strings?, piano?) in the background but it is totally outshone by her phantastic voice. anyone knows the name and where to get it?

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Feists album, I have it. Do you use SLSK?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 12:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh and the album is called "Let It Die"

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Jacobo, if anything the 'ESL' factor gives their lyrics a certain directness and simplicity that works for me.

Japanese Giraffe (Japanese Giraffe), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

"Jacobo, if anything the 'ESL' factor gives their lyrics a certain directness and simplicity that works for me. "

Agreed - KOC's lyrics are part of their charm, and "I Don't Know What I Can Save You From" is a classic - ESL or not.

eight months pass...
i really really like them and their samba-esque guitar playing.

judging from the show i attended a few weeks ago, the ladies really love erland.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Saturday, 9 April 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

I got goosebumps and welled up just hearing 'Know How' in my head, not even listening to it. What a brilliant, beautiful song.

blueski, Thursday, 10 July 2008 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

It'd be nice if these guys put out a new record.

pgwp, Thursday, 10 July 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

i had to sell my copy of this, but i'm thinking bout pickin it up again. great record.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 10 July 2008 23:59 (seventeen years ago)

two months pass...

It is ridiculous that 'the ladies' should love that member of this band. Jeezus, he wasn't attractive even in Spring 1998 when I knew him, and we are all 10 years uglier now.

Trying to leave that aside, this LP seems to have at least a few really quite compelling tracks. I am listening to it for the first time ever.

the pinefox, Sunday, 14 September 2008 09:53 (seventeen years ago)

four years pass...

Misread on repeat these days

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 8 August 2013 14:55 (twelve years ago)

i think of the lyrics to Misread a ton. Particularly, 'how come no one told me, all throughout history, the loneliest people, are the ones who always spoke the truth. the ones who made a difference, by withstanding indifference.'
