Lukas (lukas), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i've heard "lean back" and "move ya body" at least once an hour on hot 97 for the last two months.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

SLOW MOTION!!!!

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

white people love to make fun of "lean back" in my experience

jess, Monday, 26 July 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

what's to make fun of??

how about "welcome back"?? maybe it'll be a smoooth summer.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

every summer should somehow involve "Be Thankful For What You've Got" by William DeVaughn

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I just went to a car show and got to meet Fat Joe! Him and the Terror Squad did Lean Back and I got to watch from backstage, it was pretty fun....I caught myself doing the Lean Back but then stopped myself because I felt like a dork.

Clipse and Loon also performed. Clipse were really great. Loon was really terrible...he's the worst live performer I've ever seen in my life. I got my picture taken with The Clipse.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

this summer we should all listen to tropicalia and rocksteady and smooth, unhurried jams like "hey ma" and "this can't be life" and "welcome back" and that song with sleepy brown in it about steppin out and so on and so forth.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

the answer to your question vahid is in the email address of my last post

jess, Monday, 26 July 2004 19:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i like it though because it doesn't take much dancing talent to do...that's good for me.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:39 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i thought white folks would be racing to embrace it actually

jess, Monday, 26 July 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"Float on" of course.

dan rukas (dan rukas), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, when I was getting my picture taking with the Clipse they kept putting their hands palms-forward towards the camera jutting forward at a 45-degree angle, so I was self-concious (hi kanye) and did the same thing so i would look cool, but then after I saw the picture later I realized they were doing the "V" Vulcan Dr. Spock hand sign....Star Trek=Star Trak! I thought that was pretty funny because I was trying to be cool and they were doing the nerdiest hand sign ever!

I thought the Clipse was really cool...they come off so laconic and stern in their videos, but live they were really fun, they were just up there having a good time....One time Pusha (or Malice I don't know who's who) pulled off a really fast line then looked back towards the DJ with a big grin and bugged out his eyes and did a mock brow-wiping motion and puffed out his cheeks in a "WHEW! that was hard to get through motion)....Rosco P Coldchain was there too and he's really really goofy in person, all arms and legs and was wearng a huuuuge oversized lime green polo shirt that looked like tent on his stick body...he was runnign around just making mischief thorughout the whole set....Grabbed his nuts all the time.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

DANIEL OTM!!!!!!11

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

(16:45:20) GIRL: it's the new summer jam

Whiskeytown Littlecock (ex machina), Monday, 26 July 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

DON'T BE ASKING NIGGA QUESTIONS BOUT WHERE I'M DRIVING YOU

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

camera jutting forward at a 45-degree angle

reminds me of the clipse line "cigarette dangle at a 45-degree angle" in "young boy". apropopropos of zilch.

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

white people love to make fun of "lean back" in my experience

This white person has never even heard of it. Who's it by?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What's that song that uses the same loop the Fugees used in "Ready Or Not" back in the day? I hear that fucking song ten times a god damn day.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah and uh "Overnight Celebrity".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I've heard "Take Me Out" at many (very) different clubs, but "Turn Me On" is probably the anthem on the West Coast right now - that or something by Ursher or maybe "Culo".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Where'd my last message go?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, I was saying "Guilty" by The Rasmus is currently #1 on The Box, for what it's worth.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

take me out is huge...i hear it everywhere.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

What's that song that uses the same loop the Fugees used in "Ready Or Not" back in the day?

"I Don't Wanna Know" by Mario Winans ft. Enya and P Diddy... it's a great song, but not a SUMMER ANTHEM because it's a dark, brooding ballad.

"Move Ya Body" is the biggest one so far I think, though I hope "Babycakes" will be huge.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 26 July 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, culo!

matt, the car show w clipse wasn't in fair mpls was it? i know i live under several rocks, but...

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

miss richfield vs trina
somalis vs cubans

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Shapeshifters, surely? I-I-I-I-I'm a different person!

JoB (JoB), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck "Culo"; gimme "Pull Up".

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:13 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously though, it's cool that ya'll are living in the future, but I still hear tipsy everywhere

Lukas (lukas), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I live in the darkest corner of the most culturally retarded state in the union and I haven't heard Tipsy in weeks

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Last time I saw muchMusic in a hotel room, which was the end of June, I guess, in Prince George, the only video I saw repeated(3 or 4 times, in fact) was 'The Reason', by Hoobastank. I had to look it up when I got home, because I didn't dare to believe that a band would have such a laughably bad name and, if that indeed was the name, they were totally humourless gits.

It's a horrible song. Maybe the least-fun summer hit song ever. Why do the kids hate fun?

derrick (derrick), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

HOOBASTANK sounds like they should play sublime influenced rasta rap metal

Whiskeytown Littlecock (ex machina), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

http://www.whomikejones.com/home.htm

this is the hottest shit in texas right now. Swishahouse representing an undie track that crushes anything by the majors. fuck everything on the radio, I pity the rest of the country because they are sleeping on this.

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

p.s. still tippin' is the hot single.

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

*listens to said song* It's good, definitely -- pleasant, though, not grab your attention there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

NED, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU GOT TIPSY IN DA CLUB???

PS ILXOR FAPS DUZZZENT COUNT.

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

In a bar, a week and a half ago in Venezuela, and we were listening to salsa, mariachi, techno and prime Latin pop and rock, if you must know. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

NED YOU ARE MAD MAN!

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Satellite of Love!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

at least this thread is a hit!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously though, maybe there's a new local noise ordinance or something because no one's blasting anything out of their cars this summer where i'm living!

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone heard the plague that is "neighborhood music?" a better summer

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Summer? what summer?

lukey (Lukey G), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 07:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i echo his sentiment.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, fine. Download and begin singing "Maria-HO! Maria-HI!" whilst dodging raindrops.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Alter Ego's "Rocker"

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear a healthily pluralist range of music coming from passing cars.

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The ones that don't have their windows up and AC on.

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

ill agree with

yeah
float on
take me out
slow motion

it has been sort of a slow summer so far though. i think we need a little more "all falls down" and a little less "jesus walks".

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

JoJo's "Leave" has been No. 1 in chicago for the past few weeks...

girltalk, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i second lola's theme- dance hit of the summer for sure.
rock hit of the summer is the dogs die in hot cars one.
pop hit of the summer is girls aloud's The Show.

great summer so far..

may, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i have said it before -- i think that "move ya body" would be even bigger if an a cappella had been released. that was just waiting to be bootlegged.

of course, it could be huge and i wouldn't know - i don't have MTV, don't listen to radio, and almost never leave my house. i'm not much a popist role model.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned does Bar La Mosca in Caracas still exist?

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, doesn't immediately ring a bell. I'll ask.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

BABYCAKES

This "DONKEY" song I keep hearing (??????)

I have a soft spot for Estelle's "1980".

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

If Cassidy's "Hotel" hadn't come out in the Spring, I think that would be the ultimate Summer radio hit.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

2004 is a 2000-bore.

FORKS! I clicked on ILM for the first time in a week purely because I wanted to post about Despacito!

it's incredible

lex pretend, Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:23 (eight years ago)

ok yeah "despacito" will definitely get huge (on non-latin radio, obv on latin it was already huge). that biebs video isn't official tho.

dyl, Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:25 (eight years ago)

i figured if it were on vivo it was gonna be official, shows what i know. but yeah, i assume biebs on this + summer is a whole bunch of drunk people at the bar trying to sing along in a language they don't speak

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:36 (eight years ago)

I'm distracted by finding out that fucking horrible "Johnny Johnny, Yes Papa" video is one of the 50-most viewed videos on all of Youtube

PJD PDJ DPJ (DJP), Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:39 (eight years ago)

Chocolate-covered gummy bears? Not ruling those lil' guys out. (ulysses), Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:48 (eight years ago)

I shrug a bit re "Despacito" becaus Latin radio in Miami has lots of songs that sound like this, but if takes Biebs to give'em a national profile then bully for Daddy Yankee

the Rain Man of nationalism. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 11 May 2017 16:50 (eight years ago)

i don't really like "despacito" much. i wish "chantaje" from last year had managed to cross over.

dyl, Thursday, 11 May 2017 18:05 (eight years ago)

I like Despacito. Really love Slide.

I'm The One might be big?

It Ain't Me is my fav tho

The times they are a changing, perhaps (map), Thursday, 11 May 2017 18:48 (eight years ago)

I shrug a bit re "Despacito" becaus Latin radio in Miami has lots of songs that sound like this,

yea i can't quite see what makes this tune stand out from the rest of latin pop/reggaeton

marcos, Thursday, 11 May 2017 18:50 (eight years ago)

Humble was #1 for a sec. Just happy Shape of You has crested, god i hate that song.
