Wich was better ?
I go with technotronic and the Ya Kid K

Leki, Monday, 26 July 2004 21:07 (twenty-one years ago)

let's not go down the ya kid k road again. (mods?)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Technotronic, but "The Power" is better than any single Technotronic hit and Black Box dwarfs 'em both.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

It's been far too long. Would anyone happy to know if Ya Kid K had a webpage we could catch up on the latest moments of her career on?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Ya Kid K have a web page www.yakidk.com Ya Kid K will start her solo carrier. Her sister "Leki" has released a Single in Europe called "Breakin Out" .

Leki, Monday, 26 July 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Pump Up The Jam is better than Snaps "The Power"

PumpUp, Monday, 26 July 2004 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rhythm Is a Dancer" is the best Europop song ever, and "The Power" is the third best, so I'll go for Snap!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I learned to dance to 'The Power', so that. Even if Snap! ripped it off someone else.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 26 July 2004 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Beste Voice is in Pump Up The Jam (Ya Kid K) and dominant beats ,too. So i go with technotronic

Thomas, Monday, 26 July 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Wut, no love for "Rhythm"?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 July 2004 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm as serious as cancer when I say that Snap were better.

Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry.

Wooden, Monday, 26 July 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Man, no contest. Ya Kid K is the one.

maria b (maria b), Monday, 26 July 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Whither Felly?

Joseph McCombs, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

"Whither Felly?"

Felly was a model hired by the label to lip-sync Ya Kid K's voice - same scenario as Black Box, who had Katrin Quinol mouthing vocals recorded by Martha Wash.

As a side note, I just discovered this site a few days ago, and I think it's awesome - I love all this early 90s dance stuff in a VERY sincere way, and it's great to see other people do, too...

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

The Leki single was pretty great too, but she is no YKK.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 03:53 (twenty-one years ago)

"pump up the jam" is the first single i can remember buying!! so i have to take technotronic on sentimental grounds but the fact is that the "serious as cancer / rhythm is a dancer" line goes over and above the call of duty.

artiste, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Snap-better beats

lukey (Lukey G), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 07:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Snap have probably dated quite a bit better, to be fair.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"Pump up the Jam" kicks off in a club a lot bigger than "The Power". On a test set of three. Pump up the Jam still gets a run out now and then. Snap got snapped, I think.

___ (___), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Still no love for "Rhythm Is a Dancer"? Am I the only one to appreciate it's greatness?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course not, you just ASSUME that its greatness is universally assumed. As it should be.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Get Up > Rhythm Is A Dancer > Oops Up > The Power > All other Technotronic singles > All other Snap singles

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:14 (twenty-one years ago)

If I were to make my top ten Europop singles list, it'd be something like this:

1. Rhythm Is a Dancer
2. Mr. Vain
3. The Power
4. Open Sesame
5. Scatman
6. Got to Get It
7. Everytime You Touch Me
8. Another Night
9. All That She Wants
10. The Key the Secret

Technotronic wouldn't even be on the top 20, as Edward said, they've probably dated a lot worse than Snap!.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:45 (twenty-one years ago)

how could you leave out Modo's 'EI Zwei Polizei!'??

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Rhythm Is A Dancer is very good, I liked Exterminate! as well, and The Power obviously. actually i remember when 'Cult Of Snap' came out I thought it was great but no it's just terrible really as is their 'Ooops Upside Your Head' cover thing, what with Turbo B talking at length about having teh sex, bleh. the later Snap singles are even more awful tho.

can 'Everytime You Touch Me' be Europop if by an American artist? oh who cares

don't you like Eiffel 65 Tuomas?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Everytime You Touch Me is brilliant Europop in spirit, if not in artist.

Get Up still sounds good, dated as it is...

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Her sister "Leki" has released a Single in Europe called "Breakin Out" .

There's already a follow-up. Breakin'Out reminds me of Basement Jaxx (which is a good thing). Sadly, Leki doesn't really have any *presence*, she's a very mediocre dancer.

jesus nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 09:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Snap have a very special place in my heart because they were the first band I ever saw (supporting MC Hammer at Wembley).

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 09:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooh, I had forgotten about "Exterminate", was it really by Snap!? A good song, still. Also, forgive me for being pedantic, but "Snap!" is written with an exclamation mark, not just "Snap".

I think Europop has a clear musical definition, so it can be done by non-Europeans as well. Moby is still the only American artist I think of who has made Europo songs, but some Asian dance pop songs are very clearly Europop-influenced.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i think 2 In A Room may also have flirted with Europop with 'Wiggle It' and 'Giddy Up' amongst other things. Fair point tho.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure Technotronic have dated so much as they always sounded kind of naff in that Euro rap-dance way. Despite the 'serious as cancer' line, Snap! sounded tougher, more American and less ridiculous, at first anyway. I mean 'The Power' was a big underground hit before it hit the big time, wasn't it (though as I said, I think there were arguments about who made the original version and whether Snap! had ripped them off).

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Technotronic, I choose you.

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Nobody else has lyrics that even approach the brilliance of "rocking rolling rolling rocking rocking rolling rolling rock"

I think the best thing about both of these bands is the way they've both dated, I can't wait until they start coming out with movies that use all these songs in the soundtrack and featuring high school kids fighting crime with the power of flourescent green denim.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Tombot I kiss thee.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This is what Technotronic means to me:

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)
