Anthony Newley and Earth Wind & Fire

The Newley album of songs from Willy Wonka, 'Pure Imagination', has finally been reissued by Edsel, featuring the grooviest version of 'Candyman' ever and also a surprisingly fly take on 'Pop Goes The Weasel'. But can it be true that Earth Wind & Fire put the funk into these recordings? Or is London's premier surreal breakfast show presenter having a wind-up?

Is it his original version Pop Goes The Weasel? I love that track - always makes me laugh: "...they uppped the price of tuppeny rice to fourpence".
