AaronK (AaronK), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't read pitchfrok [sic] except when there's an ILM threa about it.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:09 (twenty-one years ago)

This isn't very trendy or underground, but they play some interesting stuff late night on MTV2 (UK), especially the hip-hop show. I discovered MC Abdominal, Lyrics Born and Atmosphere amongst others through watching it.

Wooden (Wooden), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

WAY too much time shuffling through the new release sections of AB-CD, Boomkat (although their tendency to praise everything Baked Goods/CCO/Morr is more than a bit irritating), Smallfish and Forced Exposure, among others.

Also, DJ Martian's page is scarily useful. http://djmartian.blogspot.com/

bohford, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I open slsk on my desktop, then point a divining rod at the monitor.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Boomkat descriptions carn't be trusted!

I believe they also help run/distribute CCO, so they are obviously going to hype it to death.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

my letter box as ireallylovemusic has become a seriously lucky monkey of late.
other than that .. umm ILM/playlouder

mark e (mark e), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I take the Boomkat descriptions with at least 20 or 30 grains of salt... it's the samples I'm there for, which are quite nice when something isn't available to preview on slsk yet.

I'm tempted to open an online record store which doesn't offer any blurbs, just sound samples. But I guess people wouldn't know what the "hot" records are supposed to be?

ILM, mp3blogs and other blogs but less so, mates, mtv2 for new silly indie and the request-video channels for new pop. Sometimes the Wire, I guess, but not often. Random listens in rough trade. Support bands, very rarely.

I have to give much love to Fluxblog. Even if Matthew's been more into the Scandanavian dance pop than I ever will be lately, he still has turned me onto some amazing shit. And if he doesn't have anything I'm feeling, his list of links on the site is bound to turn up something.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Fluxblog is the shit, made all the more enjoyable cuz I share Matthew's hyper-affinity for the Fiery Furnaces.

"KCRW radio and stream"
-Spencer you are a brave man.
Why?

- This sounds paranoid but it's not, really: I just don't think that anyone would contest that KCRW is not particularly popular on ILM. When I first logged on I noticed that there were many more haters than fans of K-CREW...but who cares? Fa-la-la

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Haters tend to be louder, but I think that KCRW is actually a very good station. MBE is a little MOR, but that show and the others consistently play new and interesting music. That woman on the weekend has been busting micro-house for ages and 'Metropolis' regularly debuts great tracks (at least they're a debut for me). I think alot of people think that the station is too professional and/or commercial, but I know a good thing when I hear it!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I just can't stand a couple of their djs. KCRW I mean. Jason Bently and the guy on weekday mornings.

Bently just seems so unadventurous.

hector (hector), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I am probably just spoiled though. In any other town in the States I would be worshiping KCRW.
