Wow, that almost restores my faith in Ministry.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

best album title ever.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, that almost restores my faith in Ministry.

Well the last time they released a good album (in my eyes) was when a Bush was running for reelection, so maybe it's that time again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 01:27 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the theme of the album. every song starts with the letter W.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

best title ever!

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a story behind that title.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Chicken with Mole Sauce

1 chicken cut into 8 serving pieces
1 onion, quartered
4 cloves garlic, peeled, halved
6 sprigs each of fresh thyme, oregano, and parsley
12 chiles guajillos, cleaned
3 ripe tomatoes, peeled
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 whole cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 cup oil
1 small onion, quartered
8 cloves garlic, peeled
1 - 2-inch piece cinnamon stick
1 plantain, peeled, chopped
1 ounce Mexican chocolate

Place the chicken in a stew pot and add the onion, garlic, and herbs. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Cover, and simmer until tender, about 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, remove the stems from the chile peppers. Cut them in half lengthwise and remove the seeds. Toast the chiles briefly in a hot skillet; do not overtoast. Place chiles in a small bowl and cover with hot water; set aside.

Place the peeled tomatoes in a blender jar and pulse a few times. Toast the sesame seeds until just browned in the same skillet. Add to the tomatoes, along with the oregano, cloves, and allspice. Blend until smooth. Add oil to the skillet and fry the onion pieces for about 5 minutes. Add the garlic cloves and cinnamon stick and fry for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and transfer to the blender jar. Fry the plantain for a few minutes, then transfer to the blender jar, along with the chiles and water. Blend until smooth. Strain the sauce and return to the skillet. Add the chocolate and season with salt.

Add 2 cups of the chicken broth to the sauce and the stewed chicken pieces. Cook for about 20 to 25 minutes, uncovered. Mole sauce should be fairly thick.

Hey! You stay away from me.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard this yet, but I liked the last album pretty well. (Shame they were so boring live.)

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Now don't get me wrong -- I love lots of Ministry, me, but really...it's 2004. If ever there was a band in need of hanging it up, it's Ministry. Say goodnight, Al.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

but killing joke should still be playing?

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Ouch.

Anyways, I still don't get why the title's genius... It's because it sounds like "Houses of the Holy," but instead of "Holy" it's "Mole," as in the sauce that is used in a number of Mexican food dishes? Does that even count as a pun, just because the word rhymes? Am I missing something? Am I incredibly dense??

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll take "Hairway to Steven" as a title, anyways.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I rather liked "Dark Side of the Spoon."

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

but killing joke should still be playing?

-- cutty (holle...), July 28th, 2004. (later)

Yes. At least Killing Joke have a damn style of their own and didn't rip it off of others.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Ministry should make another Human League/Pet Shop Boys style album

AaronHz (AaronHz), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the song that was on Music For Robots. If you don't mind some aping of Psalm 69 it's fantastic.

Speaking of which, I saw that KMFDM has a new album out too. I don't know, the whole KMFDM art style and one word title thing thing was distinctive for awhile, but in the record store I just thought, "OMG, I can't believe they're still together and doing this."

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 19:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear lots of people say that Ministry ripped off many other band styles (which I sort of agree with), but I'd like someone to point out who exactly they were ripping off when they dropped A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste. I'd argue that they had claimed their post-synth identity in full by then and that everything that has followed has been true to form (with varying degrees of metal thrown in). You may not like what they do, but they do it well...

Also, I saw them live last year in El Paso and they were KILLER. Which reminds me of a thread I've been meaning to start....

yeah, why is everybody like "best title ever"? Its a horrible horrible title. Isnt it?

my name is limitless, Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's titularly AWESOME

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Distinctly unawesome.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

cutty you're wrong. A good record title is something like "Feelin Fine". A good band name is like "Fat Worm of Error".

my name is limitless, Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

"Houses of the Moley" (give or take the 'e') would have been a better title.

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

er, wait. someone else pointed that out already. ferget it.

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"House on Poo Corner" would do just as well.

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Ministry stealing ideas from Wally Pleasant now? What gives?
