is it going to be the alcachofa of the year?? the leave luck to heaven i can feel good about liking??

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i couldn't say it's the alcachofa of the year -- funny, just yesterday was in convo with a friend and we decided there wasn't one this year -- but it's pretty darn good.

i really dig it, though i haven't put it in on in months...

The dark, convoluted tracks near the middle of the album (from "Long Way Down" to "That's How I Like It) are sublime. In a blow against diversity, I wish the whole album continued in this same vein....when "Buck" kicks in, I get the feeling of the musical fog (and my interest) dissolving.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Heard about 30 seconds of it... pure heat

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

re-reading that, I realize what a twat I sound like today, so please pretend it never happened

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

YOU SOUND LIKE A TWAT

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

actually hearing it described as "pure heat" really makes me want to get it!!

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm sure it is pure heat. i want to bump it in my car NOW.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

also is luke vibert the new paradigm for american indietronica producers?? (different names for different projects, attempts at many different genres, slightly tongue-in-cheek production)

does james cotton have any of that kerrier district goofiness??

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

ain't nothin' goofy about cotton - or, indeed, with any of mullinix's stuff, really. he's pretty brow-furrowed and focused, which is precisely why i like him so much. agreed, the best of "the dancing box" is the almost EBM-like darkness of it. sinister.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I fuckin agree with Philip although I think it would work better broken out into singles. Sinister yes.

Is Wagon Christ moving towards being our new Lawrence Welk?

so i am going to a dabyre show this sunday. how can i make him play james cotton traxx??

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe if i wear an O.R. mask, a big flourescent green t-shirt and big white gloves and just stand in front of his set-up and waaaaaave my hands in face??

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 03:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Heh. Chances are Tadd would just nod and blush.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i just got this and it is indeed excellent. i love the way the tracks sound like they are going to fall apart and the overdriven analog synths.
