See, all that Franz Ferdinand money was good for something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:26 (twenty-one years ago)

the NME this week finally review the album with a 9/10 score

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

lamers.

AdamL :') (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

the domino deal is for the US only? i saw it listed on Brainwashed Releases

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

domino could have at least put some bonus tracks on there...

no wait they'll do a remix ep within the year too!

remember the notwist?

my name is... (downtown81), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

If I have never heard the Junior Boys, what are 2 songs I should start with?

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Last Exit out in the U.S. or not? I went to the record store yesterday to pick it up, and not only did they not have it in, they had no information about it at all.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Not.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Forced Exposure are distributing it.

paul c (paul c), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Junior Boys is distributed by Forced Exposure in US at the mo, therefore only a select through specialist stores have it - such as Other Music

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

That would explain why the only place I found to order it from at a decent price was Forced Exposure.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah and its still 16$ there. I think I'll wait till I can find it cheaper and continue listening to my mp3 in the meantime.

artdamages (artdamages), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

So when/where the damn crap hell can I get it if I live in the US NOW? Is there a place to order it off the interweb? I don't live near othermusic

Scott CE (Scott CE), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Twisted Village in Boston/Cambridge has it. Or just order it from Forced Exposure, who are based in MA.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ben, off the last album I'd suggest "Last Exit" and "Under The Sun".

willem (willem), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog - "Last Exit" and "Birthday"

xp

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

'bellona' and 'high come down'

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(last album, heh)

Yeah and its still 16$ there
Sounds like heaven when you're from a country where the cheapest price for a newly released cd is €15 (~$19)...

(xpost: great, let's all nominate different tracks :)

willem (willem), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

interesting read, it's from a local paper from where the JBs are from , apparently

manuel (manuel), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

insound is selling it for 17.99. neguhtive.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Tower Records stocks it...most stores. They transfer stock between stores for free also.

cs appleby (cs appleby), Thursday, 29 July 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

As CS says Tower are stocking it, and it shouldn't be much trouble to find it on-line. Here's a list of places to buy it, but spending a minute or two on google should bring up results. + here's another list of places to buy it.

nick.K (nick.K), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Alright, I happened to be in Tower on Sunset last night, and they had a bunch of copies (for $21.99). I was feeling ritzy; i had a couple extra Andrew Jacksons in my pocket. I bought the damned thing (guilt over thousands and thousands of dollars in debt just settling in now). About to give it a listen this morning.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

damn, you spent $22 on an album you didn't even know you would like or not?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to do that all the time...pre-mp3.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It was a nostalgic flashback to an earlier, more care-free era of wealth and recklessness. Fortunately, I think this is pretty excellent so far. The sticker on the front of the CD says it's "like Franz Ferdinand-meets-Timbaland," which is preposterous.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

"like The Beatles-meets-The Neptunes"

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

its like nick drake meets new order

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:52 (twenty-one years ago)

yea.

nick drake and new order with a little r&b goodness for good measure

hector (hector), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

David Fricke, On About Arthur Russell and the release of Calling Out of Context, Rolling Stone, March 4, 2004
"If Nick Drake had lived long enough to make records with New Order, they might have sounded like this".

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

You know, as much as I like that Arthur Russell album (and I do worship the dude), a Nick Drake/New Order collabo woulda been like sooo much better

Sonny A. (Keiko), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe Nick Drake and Arthur Russell were the same person. Arthur Russell's whole backstory sounds a bit too contrived.

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

so nick drake fakes his death to become gay and produce disco in new york?

that sounds contrived!

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps a little too contrived...

artdamages (artdamages), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

four years pass...

opening track of the new album 'parallel lines' streaming on the domino website now.

matt h, Friday, 30 January 2009 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

parallel lines

where have i heard that before?

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony ft Phil Collins (jim), Friday, 30 January 2009 14:41 (seventeen years ago)

gorgeous

baaderonixx, Friday, 30 January 2009 14:55 (seventeen years ago)

^^^ even through crappy pc-speakers. oscillating synths, eclipsoid motif and steady muffled industrial beat - terrific.

willem, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:28 (seventeen years ago)

I never really managed to get into and love the last one for some reason but I'm very optimistic for this new one

baaderonixx, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:31 (seventeen years ago)

You didn't!? Why? ("for some reason" doesn't cut it ;-)

willem, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:37 (seventeen years ago)

bah can't really tell - the kind of album I enjoyed while it was playing and couldn't really fault for anything but which I never had a strong desire to put on (unlike Last Exit which i played to death). It felt maybe a touch too monochromatic and a bit too torch-y

baaderonixx, Friday, 30 January 2009 15:45 (seventeen years ago)

I like "Parallel Lines" but it doesn't blow me away. Looking forward to the new album, but trying not to set expectations too high -- So This Is Goodbye was my favorite album of 2006, more than likely. If this new one cracks my top ten it'll have done its job!
