I need suggestions on making a Frank Black compilation. I have only heard "Los Angeles" and "Dog in the Sand" and I really like both so they are going on there. Suggestions?

I suppose this could be a POX but ideally i am gunning for over 10 songs.

Anything off his first two albums, which are great.

After that, forget it except for the tracks 'You Ain't Me' and 'Bad Harmony'

"If It Takes All Night" (from Dog in the Sand). So so so excellent.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sort of partial to "All My Ghosts" and "Back to Rome" myself.

Headache, dudes.

His cover of "Handyman" (with the otherwise loathesome Teenage Fanclub backin' him up) is hands down, far and away the best thing he ever did. After that, there's "Los Angeles" and "Headache"...and then Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...............

I'd add:

Whatever Happened To Pong and (I Want To Live On An) Abstract Plain from the Teenager Of The Year album. In fact those first two solo albums are both bloody great.

Speaking of which I have those plus Dog In The Sand, which i really like. What other Frank solo I am missing out on? Anyone know if the last one Show Me Your Tears is worthwhile?

His last three are all very good, SMYT is excellent.

Huck, Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Must Have: "Brackish Boy"

christoff (christoff), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"That's like kicking a baby lamb whilst wearing rollerskates"

Whilst who's wearing rollerskates? You or the lamb?

If the lamb was wearing the rollerskates and you gave it a really powerful kick (maybe taking a run-up first), it could go for miles!

It would have to be on a fairly smooth surface 'though - a field wouldn't be any use for instance, 'cos the wheels of the rollerskates would be too small to cope with the uneven surface and would rapidly get clogged with mud if it was at al damp underfoot and the lamb would lose momentum quite rapidly.

I was kind of shocked at how good and really quite... lovely "My Favorite Kiss" from last year's Show Me Your Tears was. It's the only track I have from it.

Nothing is as good as 'Los Angeles', though.

I just know I have to get that one, thanks.

The first, self-titled, Frank Black and the Catholics is pretty excellent.
