I can't see this happening. I really, seriously hope it's not going to happen. I'm not a fan of Jude Law's acting - i find him one of these stiff, arch, stitled, middle-class British actors. What next? Hugh Grant as Barney, Rupert Graves as Stephen Morris, Stephen Fry as Hooky?

plus he's too old

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus wept.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, gross.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

too old, too narcissistic, too crap, just plain WRONG!

Neil FC (Neil FC), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Timberlake to play Johnny Rotten in official biopic

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

They should just get Mike Skinner to do it already.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

even Joaquim Phoenix would be a better choice than Jude Law - but i think he's playing Johnny Cash in a movie that's filming right now.

Neil FC (Neil FC), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Why?

(not to Mike Skinner, to the original thread topic.)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, to Mike Skinner too, actually.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

eh, not the ideal choice, but i guess it could be worse. they could've gotten colin farrell or ashton kutcher.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

like, *another* joy division movie? for why?

drummer from jj72 to thread.

whatever happened to them?

piscesboy, Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

If they want a big name then Tobey Maguire or Jake Gyllenhaal would at least be in the right ballpark.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Todd Haynes still making that Dylan biopic with Dylan played by a 12-yr old black girl?

Loose Translation: Sexy Dancer (sexyDancer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't people get it? It can't be a star. It wouldn't work!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Fucking make a New Order movie already.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Dr. Bill is a wise man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Jesus Christ!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

This is most unfortunate.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Jesus Christ!

Jesus Christ would make a very bemusing Ian Curtis.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

And vice versa.

This has seriously ruined my morning. I'm reduced to posting "Jesus Christ" and variants.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

from here:
Law has the line "You came along to turn on everyone, sexy Sadie" from the Beatles' song "Sexy Sadie" tattooed on his arm, in honor of his wife.

That would not look good in a scene with this classical Curtis pose,
http://www.manchanomonitor.blogger.com.br/ian%20curtis1.jpg
now would it?

willem (willem), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah! He also has capped teeth and blond hair and a hairless body. And a tan. And isn't Mancunian. WTF. He's also retarded enough to have the lyrics of "Sexy Sadie" tattooed on his arm.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Curtis hanged himself because Sadie Frost turned him down.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

(Ian Curtis wasn't a Mancunian either, btw)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok, Macclesfeldian. But how likely is that?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe they should get Mike Skinner to play him.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Who, Jesus Christ or Jude Law?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I've just been informed that though he lived most of his life in Macclesfield, he was in fact born in Stretford, so we're OK again with the vast reservoir of bankable Mancunian stars.

Why does the actor have to come from the same place again?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Because you have to know how to FEEEEEEEEL the role, man. This is why I will never be able to play Marc Almond in a movie.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It just seems more important to a film like this. Anyone agree? It should be a big Manc affair.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, dream situation: they wouldn't make it at all.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess better Jude Law than Stephen Dorf or Heath Ledger or someone.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Hugh Grant as Barney, Rupert Graves as Stephen Morris, Stephen Fry as Hooky

Actually, I'd like to see this!

frankE (frankE), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

If it were Stephen Dorf I would launch some kind of vigilante attack.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

the guy who played ian curtis in 24 hour party people (sorry i forget his name!) was fantastic

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I thought he was great. A lot of web nerd JD fans complained that he didn't look like Ian Curtis.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

well what are you gonna do, they couldn't really use his corpse

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

(COULD THEY?!?!?!?!?!)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

They sure could.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Which brings me to: why not just make a really good documentary, finally?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

alba that just broke my brain

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

the guy who played ian curtis in 24 hour party people (sorry i forget his name!) was fantastic
-- s1ocki (slytus...), July 29th, 2004.

yeah, what exactly is the purpose of this movie?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:30 (twenty-one years ago)

being a good movie?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Which brings me to: why not just make a really good documentary, finally?
I'd say neworderstory accomplished this rather nicely

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:35 (twenty-one years ago)

being a good movie?
-- s1ocki (slytus...), July 29th, 2004.

I mean, they did fine with Joy Division parts of 24 Hour party People, do we really need a full length biopic with Jude Law?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

oh i thought you meant what is the purpose of 24 hr party people. but i agree with what you're saying!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 29 July 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

that thing about lawrence olivier: can't possibly be true!

amateur!st (amateurist), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Would you trust The BBC?
