ha, then I should go back, because I can't remember what that is. I'm talking about the song they're playing with the juggling guy. bass-heavy, fast rock drone. with the right stereo, that kills pretty much everything

dleone (dleone), Friday, 30 July 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

instead of a disc full of spotty solo stuff, the third disc on that shouldve been a czukay-mastered audio of that show.

Ok, someone help me here. There is an old, grainy clip where there people breakdancing to Can. Something off Ege Bamyasi I think. Looks like mid-80s New York. You know, some B-Boys gettin' down to some funky Krautrock. I know it exists! Anyone?

Yeah I'm not going to cosign on the whole series being disappointing, loved the first two volumes. Was just disappointed with the Cuxhaven release.

two months pass...

According to this Danish site, it's Paris '73 is coming out next month, 2/24 to be exact:

https://soundstation.dk/shop/4-all-products/178863-live-in-paris-1973---2024-european-mute-label-5-track-lp-pre-order/

Mute and Spoon Records present the next instalment of the curated CAN live concert series, LIVE IN PARIS 1973—the first in the series to feature Damo Suzuki's vocals.

The series was overseen by founding member Irmin Schmidt and producer/engineer René Tinner, who delicately worked on restoring the archival recordings to the best quality for current modern technology. This record captures the band’s 1973 performance in Paris and features Irmin Schmidt on keyboard & synths, Jaki Liebezeit on drums, Michael Karoli on guitars, Holger Czukay on bass, and Damo Suzuki on vocals for one of his final shows with the band.

Tracklisting.

1.Whole People Queueing
2.One More Night
3.Spoon
4.Stars And Lines
5.Vitamin C

Release date: February 23rd 2024

Ooh goody goody

Little Billy Love (Tom D.), Thursday, 4 January 2024 16:49 (two years ago)

good stuff — that show definitely deserves to be cleaned up and made part of the official, er, CANon

tylerw, Thursday, 4 January 2024 16:51 (two years ago)

only a single LP? or am I reading that wrong?

frogbs, Thursday, 4 January 2024 17:20 (two years ago)

i want to say that the "queuing" here is more than a half-hour long, so I hope not?

tylerw, Thursday, 4 January 2024 17:23 (two years ago)

Very limited data for sure, but going by that site's other offerings, the price point at least seems to indicate a double LP.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 4 January 2024 17:34 (two years ago)

ahh okay actually I remember this bootleg, it's about 90 minutes long, so either a double or a triple

iirc the sound quality on the boot isn't the greatest. wonder if this is coming from a different source or if they did a bunch to clean it up.

interesting that they actually use the track names this time!

frogbs, Thursday, 4 January 2024 17:38 (two years ago)

Yeah, I was surprised by that as well, cautiously optimistic that this won't be another whittled down one ala Cuxhaven given that the tracklist matches the bootlegs.

The nasty completist part of me is still irritated that Cuxhaven was only an excerpt of the total show.

Paris 1973 is out now…going to wait until I get properly stoned to play it but the first track is about six minutes longer than the entire Cuxhaven release which seems promising

Slim is an Alien, Friday, 23 February 2024 16:01 (two years ago)

Really hoping my copy ships soon, my only frustration with this series is that Mute always seems to wait until a few days after release day to ship the pre-orders.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 23 February 2024 16:06 (two years ago)

Haven't bought a physical copy but was listening in the car yesterday and the first track is excellent driving music.

StanM, Thursday, 21 March 2024 20:12 (two years ago)

Did they ever even play a proper gig with Malcolm Mooney? According to the website below, there were three "events" at Schloss Norvenich. Mooney isn't on "Prehistoric Future" recordings afaict, which leaves the famous performance of "Yoo Doo Right" where he freaked out. Then there are three performances in Switzerland, two of which where they were apparently doing a live soundtrack at a theatre. I don't know if Mooney was there or not. Note that the filmed Soest performance was like their 12th ever gig... though probably less than that if you discount the Schloss Norvenich performances.

uhhh - the Mother Sky bootleg, that says it's from June 71, is also that same 72-may-22 show, just split into different length tracks, and not sounding as good as the later fan "remasters"

StanM, Thursday, 21 March 2024 21:38 (two years ago)

man, I feel like Future Days saved my life this week.

jmm, Friday, 22 March 2024 13:11 (two years ago)

insane it was released 50 years ago. someone could put it out wholesale today and it would be huge.

frogbs, Friday, 22 March 2024 14:57 (two years ago)

like one of my favorite DJ memories was playing some of the title track and having someone come back to see what it was, then coming back a few minutes later going "wait, this is an OLD band?"...buddy, if you don't know Can, you got some good times ahead of ya.

another fun one was when my sister in law showed up who loves Garth Brooks, so I played "The Thunder Rolls" which I segued into "Oh Yeah" during the thunderclap at the end. as I always say if you can't amuse anyone else you might as well amuse yourself

frogbs, Friday, 22 March 2024 15:04 (two years ago)

one month passes...

Haven't seen it myself, but apparently this was from a Q&A with Irmin Schmidt in the new issue of Uncut:

But following the the release later this year of two 1977 UK sets from Aston and Keele universities,
Schmidt is minded to reseal the archive for good. "I think it's enough," he says simply.
"There is quite a lot out from Can. These live records for me, they keep the standard and the quality.
I hate the idea to squeeze it out and find the last little ****!"

Bummer, but I'll choose to focus on getting what we did get.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 15 May 2024 21:41 (one year ago)

I mean, obviously the hope of a long-running Schmidt's Hits series wasn't going to happen, but could've done with a few more.

Yeah, was only to be expected.

Oh, and there's a v.long version of "I want more ..." on the last one!

Mark G, Thursday, 16 May 2024 09:56 (one year ago)

The missing word was "this" (anag).

But you have to get that "Uncut" as there's a free covermount of one track from each of the five volumes so far released.
