Because I am getting sick of Ruins and no wave minutiae on the other thread. I read the blog know as Anthony Is Right and it was proposed we should call these bands nu-wave (well some of them). This amuses me. Come share your love of fun.

I think the Darkness is great!

Bunzzzzz O)))))))))))))))))) (ex machina), Friday, 30 July 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

haha

artdamages (artdamages), Friday, 30 July 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

this wasn't (exactly) meant to be one of those change-the-title-of-another-thread-joke-threads btw

i like good/bad 80s throwbacks

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to think of an '80s throw back that is truly bad and still worth celebrating.

The new Linkin Park video qualifies. All their videos feature that Mr. Hahn guy violently pressing a button. This one is animated. Take On Me 2K.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Think I'm gonna re-invent myself as a Corey Hart tribute band.

starhits lives, Saturday, 31 July 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

after my initial enthusiasm, I'm starting to think the Killers might be bad. I still think the bass player needs to be celebrated (at least his scarf).

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean bad in the sense that chuck eddy might like them or the noize dudes think they are bad (no offense to noize dudes they have provided me many a guffaw).

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

well god that would include just about everybody in pop then

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, thats why this thread is meta.

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Franz Ferdinand don't fit into this category even though noise dudez don't like them. (This is because they are good.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Everytime I go into Target "Maps" is playing and I have a moment.

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

A moment where it sorta reminds me of that one Pat Benatar song.

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I like "Maps" okay. Not sure it's a throwback.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The vocal style is, no? I'm not sure who it sounds like off the top of my head. I like "Maps." It doesn't fit into this category either.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you make me a list of all the stuff you like so I know what wouldn't fit into the category?

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Karen O's got a Chrissie Hynde/Siouxsie Sioux thing goin' on

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

And Brian Chase has a Max Weinberg thing goin' on

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Just objecting to the "bad '80s throwbacks" label if we're talking about FF and "Maps" is all. Anthony correct--I hear Chrissie Hynde.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

"maps" and frankly ferdinand quite handily destroy the likes of the killers. the killers are for an actual musically apocalyptic cultural situation, which may be around the corner, but not all hope is in fact lost as yet. they're gonna have to wait. with bumblebeez or whoever. i mean sorry M2-payola scam, but not biting

duke eighty, Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

are there people out there who are just into whatever MTV's Advance Warning and Spin is peddling? I'm curious.

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

there was a time when I anxiously awaited to find out what was in the Buzz Bin this week. It was known as middle school.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

so yes.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, but its not the same, man! MTV doesn't play music anymore!

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

having Bumbleebeez in the BUzz Bin is a bit of deja vu

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

this is why Advance Warning is undoubtedly like sweet manna from heaven for the young and aspiring hipster.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I use bad meaning shameless, which is fine with me, and from the electroclash era, songs that I coulda sworn were from the early 80s like:

Annie-Greatest Hit

Fischerspooner-Turn On

I-F-Crocodiles in the Sky(the mix that sounds like vocodered italo-lime, not the electro mix on the Parallax Corp cd)

Tok Tok vs. Soffy O. - Missy Queen's Gonna Die

I am nostalgic for these songs right NOW.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 31 July 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Anthony, now that I think of it, I hear the Siouxsie Sioux in her voice, too. YOU ARE CORRECT.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 31 July 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Karen O was even in my dream last night.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 31 July 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Shes a bit of a twoface.

artdamages (artdamages), Saturday, 31 July 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

twoface? she's a goddamn morph. I still want her babies.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Bumblebeez are really as bad as you'd think!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 31 July 2004 19:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I hear Chrissie Hynde in Jack White, not Karen O.
