i saw him last week and the new songs all sounded good. is the production better than Hearts Of Oak? I remember getting it after hearing the songs live and being disappointed by muddy sound and horrible bass tone, which I eventually got used to.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 31 July 2004 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Everything sounds crisp and clear on the this one. The bass is really rubbery.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 31 July 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

When is it due out?

derrick (derrick), Saturday, 31 July 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't heard the leak, but I agree the new songs sounded great live. "Heart Trouble" sounded like a winner.

briania (briania), Saturday, 31 July 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm really, really excited. (though it doesn't seem to be anywhere.)

jess, Saturday, 31 July 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it's right here!

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 31 July 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not too impressed with it so far, and I loved the last two records.

Simon H., Saturday, 31 July 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to hear this

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 31 July 2004 22:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a little disappointed that of the solo songs from the Tell Balgeary EP, "Bleeding Powers" made the cut for the album but not "The Sword In The Stone".

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 1 August 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

He should just do a disco album already

Sonny A. (Keiko), Sunday, 1 August 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't listened enough yet, but on the whole i must say i don't feel it as much as i did hearts... which i felt almost immediately. the playing is x10 better and the production is way better and there are some really nice instrumental parts. but it's lacking hooks, or something. also it seems to be far more "political", which i guess given tej's basic schtick is to be expected in this day and age.

jess, Sunday, 1 August 2004 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

i'd tend to agree with jess so far, only "me and mia" and "counting down the hours" have jumped out for me after two listens, the band does sound tight as hell but most of the songs aren't nearly as energetic as the majority of hearts and tyranny, "me and mia" being an obvious exception...nothing sounded bad, and honestly i'm sure it'll grow on me, but yeah it hasn't bowled me over yet or anything.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Sunday, 1 August 2004 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

"criminal piece" reminds me of cheap trick covering big star for the theme song to That 70s Show.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

So far, I've really taken a liking to "Heart Problems," "Me and Mia" and "Counting Down the Hours." I wait for the rest to catch up, though.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get this group. I've listened to them, and I just don't get it. Especially the last album, which Pitchfork gave an insanely high rating to. Surely this is some deficiency on my part?

Richard K (Richard K), Monday, 2 August 2004 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

two months pass...
I already like "Little Dawn" and "Me and Mia" better than anything off "Hearts Of Oak". Worth buying, anyone?

alex in montreal, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Definitely worth buying. The production (Chris Shaw is brill) makes this album sound bigger than anything he's done in the past.

molly, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm looking forward to buying it today, despite 3 months of you downloading fuckers talking it down.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

is anything on STS as good as "tell balgeary..."? that song still raises the hairs on the back of my neck, every time that chorus hits.

peter smith (plsmith), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing about Ted Leo is that I find him very frustrating. I hear glimpses of brilliance (e.g. the end of "I'm A Ghost") but nothing sustainted. I'm always listening to HoO hoping to "get it" that time around, but I end up being disappointed.

alex in montreal, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought it from insound, but unlike with amazon where if you preorder it, it tends to show up the day of the release, insound ships the mofo on the day of release. i should just download the shit tonight instead of waiting till friday.

i think you can still listen to the demos of me and mia and a couple of other demo tracks on the ted leo website. good stuff.
