I tried to contact Nicky Wire on Friendster to ask if he might considering wearing a big banana suit to add the band's increasing hilarity factor but no reply was forthcoming.

Wonder if they flew to Cuba first class.

I suppose we can look forward to hearing Everything Must Go for 40 year olds later in the decade. And I did miss out on hearing Generation Terrorists for 30 year olds? Was I not paying attention?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 31 July 2004 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm only on it under a pseudonym.

CRW (CRW), Saturday, 31 July 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Generation Terrorists for 30 year olds = the single "Masses Against the Classes," unfortunately.

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Sunday, 1 August 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not me bro. Not my picture and a pseudonym would be pretty worthless if I just added an extra "L" to the spelling of my name.

CRW (CRW), Sunday, 1 August 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

worthless yet strangely apt

The single is called "You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve"? Amazing.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 2 August 2004 05:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Why didn't they call it "Reebok Nike Converse Vans"?

"The Holy Bible for 35 year olds", eh?

I'd heard that they've been working on a concept album about the general futility of existence for the average 35 year old, around a central theme of the different ways that, when ever you try to produce a large computer print on continuous paper, no matter how hard you try to make sure it's going through the printer OK and folding itself up into a neat pile as it goes, as soon as you walk away the printer ribbon gets stuck or the paper jams in the printer or it suddenly and inexplicably decides to fold itself in the other direction and instead of forming a nice neat pile ends up spewing out in all directions all over the floor, etc. etc..

Oh and if one more person tries to suggest that they've completely lost their edge and become a pretentious bunch of tossers since Richey disappeared, then Nicky's going to get so angry that he may well write a haiku about the anguish of having an endowment mortgage, on his hand, in green biro, presssing quite hard.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 2 August 2004 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

actually, "you are the generation etc. etc." is the name of another band's debut single, produced by bradfield. not that anyone should give a crap about any of this. (though i've actually heard that single and it's.. oddly unawful.)

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 2 August 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"oddly"?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 2 August 2004 09:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooops, sorry, you said "oddly unawful", disn't you?

They really are pretty dire, aren't they?

C-Man (C-Man), Monday, 2 August 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

The single is called "You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve"? Amazing.

No that's not the Manics single, that's the Johnny Boy single, and it's absofuckinglutely fucking brilliant.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 2 August 2004 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

it was gary mulholland's 'song of the month' in the OMM
last month and what he says goes. altho i've not heard it.

piscesboy, Monday, 2 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

"You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve" is the kind of song title the Manics have unsuccessfully spent the last fifteen years trying to come up with. They're a band doomed to be trumped.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Monday, 2 August 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
The Manics New Single sounds New Order circa 1993

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 6 September 2004 13:10 (twenty-one years ago)

that would be good if it actually was still 1993

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Monday, 6 September 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

eyeball,

you noticed, perhaps, that the guy from the Manics produced the Johnny Boy single?
