so many threads about devendra

My Underwear Is Melting (My Underwear Is Melting), Sunday, 1 August 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Devendra, though I'm not gaga over him the way some folks here are. Sufjan is pretty intolerable/bland.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Sunday, 1 August 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i find both kinda tedious. give me fence collective type stuff any day

purple patch (electricsound), Sunday, 1 August 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll go with Damien Jurado.

Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Sunday, 1 August 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

definitely devendra

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 1 August 2004 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

sufjan, the tunes are prettier and i'm wowed by his arrangements. but I like devandra too. but I don't love either of them.

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 1 August 2004 02:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I know they're kind of similar in the grand scheme, but observed more closely, this is like apples and oranges.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 1 August 2004 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

kyle field

a forest of trees, Sunday, 1 August 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Devendra

An H. (cupguyau), Sunday, 1 August 2004 07:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Devendra by miles

heroes + villains, Sunday, 1 August 2004 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

sufjan - not as comic book hero-ey.

doomie x, Sunday, 1 August 2004 09:08 (twenty-one years ago)

sufjan - not as nauseatingly precious

Josh Love (screamapillar), Sunday, 1 August 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Sufjan. I dig why people say he's bland, but I don't like Devandra's oversinging.

Chris Dahlen (Chris Dahlen), Monday, 2 August 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Sufjan in a walk. Better arrangements, better lyrics, and generally more interesting. *Enjoy Your Rabbit* not so much, though.

JC-L (JC-L), Monday, 2 August 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

who is devendra?

Jay Kid (Jay K), Monday, 2 August 2004 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

he's a singer

dleone (dleone), Monday, 2 August 2004 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Sickness or diarhhoea?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 2 August 2004 12:45 (twenty-one years ago)

he's a singer
would you care to be a little more specific?

Jay Kid (Jay K), Monday, 2 August 2004 12:54 (twenty-one years ago)

he's a folk singer. last name is Banhart, has a beard sometimes

dleone (dleone), Monday, 2 August 2004 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

uh-huh. should i like him if i like sufjan?

Jay Kid (Jay K), Monday, 2 August 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

no clue, because I don't really see the comparison between the two. They sound almost nothing alike. Devendra is pretty straight out of late 60s, early 70s psychedelic folk. Sufjan Stevens just seems a lot more presentable to me. I prefer Devendra.

dleone (dleone), Monday, 2 August 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

sufjan - better arrangements & melodies
but devendra is godhead too

stevie (stevie), Monday, 2 August 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

sufjan - better arrangements & melodies

Rockist. Oh wait...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 August 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Sufjan for consistency, but when Devendra is great (i.e. Nina Rojo) he's infinitely better.

Josh L, Saturday, 28 February 2009 10:33 (sixteen years ago)

They're both insufferable choads.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 28 February 2009 12:25 (sixteen years ago)

Why do Americans hate Nader, again?

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Saturday, 28 February 2009 14:57 (sixteen years ago)

taking votes from gore in 2000 election

kamerad, Saturday, 28 February 2009 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

Because he robbed Al Gore of the 2000 election?

ilxor, Saturday, 28 February 2009 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

Classic logic.

Sugban Stevens (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 28 February 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

I'd blame the American people for robbing Gore. As for me, an airbag saved my life.

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Saturday, 28 February 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

i mean, it's a stupid reason i don't agree with (voted nader in '96), but you asked

kamerad, Saturday, 28 February 2009 17:07 (sixteen years ago)

Righto. Well, I vote Nader then: Larkin Grimm.

My carpal tunnel is too bad to go "all over." (Matt P), Saturday, 28 February 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

no. and i'll take devendra, for rejoicing in the hands. sufjan's more low-key albums -- seven swans, a sun came -- are okay enough i guess but the big-hype states ones take too much work for me to get into. since rejoicing, db's silly ditty to classic ratio has gone way off balance. rejoicing though has some truly trippy shit on it, like the last song, and "when the sun shone on vetiver," that isn't weighed down too much by vampy clown songs like "this beard is for siobhan"

kamerad, Saturday, 28 February 2009 17:44 (sixteen years ago)

I'd rather hang out with Devendra and his friends.

Moka, Saturday, 28 February 2009 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

^ I think he prefers "freinds".

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Saturday, 28 February 2009 18:50 (sixteen years ago)

but they are, like, oh my god, naked all the time.. o_O

i pick Sufjan in this fite. but Devendra's not bad either, both seem to be in some kind of rut, at least momemtum-wise.

Ludo, Saturday, 28 February 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

momemtum schomemtum momentum.

Ludo, Saturday, 28 February 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

four months pass...

though this thread title was "devendra vs. satan" at first

crutial knowledge (Curt1s Stephens), Saturday, 25 July 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)

what secret corners of ilx were you searching for that you even ran across this??

SB Idiot (k3vin k.), Saturday, 25 July 2009 23:34 (sixteen years ago)

Good match-up, though. I go with Sufjan!

Department of Energy Department (u s steel), Sunday, 26 July 2009 00:06 (sixteen years ago)

ewwww, i just realized that devendra is talking about sex in "at the hop"

now i'm going to keep thinking about how good devendra thinks his sperm tastes

i guess the answer is sufjan, though i haven't listened since the last album and would probably find him insufferable

DOES ANYONE IN THIS BITCH LIKE OMC (Tape Store), Sunday, 26 July 2009 00:10 (sixteen years ago)

What!? He isn't talking about sex, tape store, or is he? Isn't it a simple farewell song?:

Put me in your suitcase
Let me help you pack
'Cause you're never coming back
No, you're never coming back

Cook me in your breakfast
And put me on your plate
'Cause you know I taste great
Yeah, you know I taste great

At the hop, it's greaseball heaven
With candy pants and Archie too

Put me in your dry dream
Or put me in your wet
If you haven't yet
No, if you haven't yet

Light me with your candle
And watch the flames grow high
No, it doesn't have to try
It doesn't have to try

Well, I won't stop all of my pretending
That you'll come home
You'll be coming home someday soon

Put me in your blue skies
Or put me in your grey
There's gotta be some way
There's gotta be some way

Put me in your tongue tie
Make it hard to say
That you ain't gonna stay
That you ain't gonna stay

Wrap me in your marrow
Stuff me in your bones
Sing a mending moan
A song to bring you home

Moka, Sunday, 26 July 2009 00:35 (sixteen years ago)

fourteen years pass...

These two remind me of the end of an era. There must be a german word for the feeling of leaving behind part that you lost… or forgot… or changed.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 28 July 2023 05:39 (two years ago)

Anyhoo I think I liked this 2000-2006 era of my life and how it felt in general. The world seemed like a better place… at least in my part of the world.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 28 July 2023 05:41 (two years ago)

Back when things were a bit more sincere
