WTFuck, there isn't a thread on Yellowcard's "Ocean Ave." on I Love Music, I thought yall loved pop music too? As the title says, this is my best single of the year thus far and I'm really a little disappointed that you guys aren't down. Leave your "street cred" in the street and enjoy this mild masterpiece once for me.

Do you worship Satan?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 1 August 2004 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, this summer I've made a point to worship at the altar of Paully Shore, which I suppose ties in with enjoying good pop singles. I do not like what I know of Carlos Santana.

this is a good song! When I first heard it on the radio I was worried Simple Plan had recorded something I could tolerate. Decent pop-punk lyrics of anxious regret and a violin part outta fuckin' nowhere. Video gets in the way though.

i like this song too for the most part but i have to say that the violin solo makes me want to rip my ears off

artiste, Sunday, 1 August 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the violin player kinda looks like rjg

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I like it too, though "Way Away" is better.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 1 August 2004 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What I like most about the album, which is only about half good, is that you think the violin thing is one of those glorious one-use tricks that's been used to boost the single but would irk if it came up too often shows up everywhere and always sounds great.

The opening three tracks on the album are just fantastic, too.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 1 August 2004 13:18 (twenty-one years ago)

are you joking?

vinnie bobereeno (vinnie bobereeno), Sunday, 1 August 2004 13:25 (twenty-one years ago)

No. Okay, when the album is bad it's REALLY bad, but as shallow, shouty pleasures go, it's got plenty of good points.

edward o (edwardo), Sunday, 1 August 2004 13:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The singer looks exactly like Alan Cumming.

Je4nne Ć’ury (Jeanne Fury), Sunday, 1 August 2004 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

who's Alan?

I just saw him on a Conan rerun.

Actor and Headmaster Of Ceremonies of San Fransisco's last gay Pride Parade

I have nothing good to say about this song.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

doesn't that imply they're more rock and roll than they actually are? Jesus was emo, ya know.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

no they are devil's spawn, not the god of rock n' roll (satan), the devil of rock n' roll (god).

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

me like meat.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I still don't get the pun, but very clever of you! And shame on me for thinking anyone wouldn't know who Alan Cummings is!

artdamages (artdamages), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

"He looks like Alan cumming."

"who's alan?"

BOI-YOI-YOING!

It wasn't very clever.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry but I had to delete that Yellowcard song from the playlist in that snowboarding videogame. It was making me sad inside and negatively affecting my mad tricks.

wickerbocker please (hammy), Sunday, 1 August 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

indeed, for their tunes are THE WORK OF A CERTAIN FALLEN ANGEL.

Some confessions:

The thing about this band is when I reviewed the CD for my local radio station over a year ago I had a very strong dislike for it. Southern California pop-punk/emo, but, wait, they have a violin player!

I did pick out what the single would be w/o knowing it. Now I have heard it so many times against my will that I might even sort of like it (see Maroon 5, John Mayer, etc). Exact same thing happened w/Junior Senior except that lots of people liked them and they are certainly less objectionable.

On the other hand I thought Story of The year was like a poppy improvement on Thrice or that kind of thing which I never cared for, but you know, it was palatable. And now I have lost my hearing because I was compelled to stab my ear-insides w/an iodine-soaked coathanger halfway through the 79th time I've heard their smash-single. You know? Its all very confusing and I'm more pissed off at how little talk there has been of Usher's album which is better than Justin Timberlake's was.

one year passes...
I just discovered this song. It is quite possibly the greatest song I have ever heard.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Friday, 31 March 2006 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

I live on Ocean Avenue. When this came out I was horrified that such a shitty song could bare the name of my street. There's a reason most rock bands don't have violinists.
