Where to go in New York?

I just got into town the other day with my friend, and after spending one night wandering aimlessly through the east village (and eventually wandering into a party based on hearing lcd soundsystem, like a couple of nerds) we'd kinda like a more firm idea of real places/clubs/venues to go to.

Is there any place that would cater to the tastes of folks who like that DFA-ish sort of stuff? I'm thinking LCD Soundsystem, Metro Area, Black Strobe, Mu, etc. I'd think there'd be some places like that around here huh? We're also generally into synthpop, some straight up pop, glam rock, the usual kinda of post-punk etc.

Any suggestions would be great. We think we've gotten some good leads on record stores, but if anybody knows of some great ones that would be a shame to overlook, then that would be great to hear about as well.

Thanks

this wednesday there's a new party called Cazzo Pazzo at Luke and Leroy's which is on 7th Ave South a few blocks below Bleeker. It's an italo-disco themed party and the guest DJ is Eric Duncan from A1 records, who's DJd with many of the above.

thursday, Brennen Green(records on Danny Wang's Balihu) and Roy Dank have a party called Pop Your Funk at APT, downstairs, and their guest is supposed to be Andrew Weatherall doing an entire punk-disco post-punk set, which is a definate not to miss event.

Darshan from Metro Area DJs at APT one thursday a month, the 2nd or 3rd, I think.

JDH who books the tribecca grand often, hosts, with me and others, SubTonic saturday at tonic, it's a different group of DJs every week but we're pretty much all fans/variations of the same stuff. Freestyle, early house and disco, italo-disco, classic disco, punk stuff, hip new stuff etc. This next week I think will be hosted by people from the ElectroDiscoPunk mailing list, which should at the very least, be interesting.

For trendy parties filled with hip looking people, try Happy Endings on tuesdays or Luke and Leroy's on Saturday, but at your own risk.

As far as big exciting parties where people go crazy and there's great DJs playing great music? No, not usually.

wow, that's a pretty helpful list of stuff... and a lot of that is just the kind of stuff we're interested in hearing. I'm not sure how long we're gonna be in town, but I'll look into going to at least a couple of those, if possible.

Thanks so much for helping out.
