are "Brown Vs. Board Of Education" jokes valid when discussing the discrepancies in media love for JT (three million, a couple top 20 hits) compared to Usher (jesus christ it's the Beatles) or is it just inflammatory nonsense?

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Taking sides: Silver Spoons v Webster

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Justified, peaked at no. 2, 3 million sold after nearly a year
Confessions, peaked at no. 1, 5 million sold after 18 weeks (still in the top 5)

"Like I Love You" hit no. 11
"Cry Me A River" hit no. 3
"Rock Your Body" hit no. 5
"Senorita" hit no. 27

"Yeah!" hit no. 1
"Burn" hit no. 1
"Confessions, pt. 2" hit no. 1
ALL THREE SINGLES were in the top ten at the same time (and it wasn't a "Hey Ya"/"The Way You Move" one-purchase two-sales deal)

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

does JT have teeth?

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 1 August 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm curious about the hipsters who dug Timberlake as a 'guilty pleasure' or whatever and what they now think of Usher.

artdamages (artdamages), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Usher could dance the bad teenage moustache off Timberlake with one leg tied to his head.

This sentence expresses the sum total of my thoughts on both these gentlemen.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

They make very different music. Usher is not as big as Timberlake outside of America.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I only like one Usher single, the other two make me want to change radio stations, which seems to show where I'm actually hearing these songs...

mike h. (mike h.), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, which is the worse sin here, "the media" (oooh!) and their discrepancies or just lumping JT in with Usher.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

They make very different music

dude.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm curious about the hipsters who dug Timberlake as a 'guilty pleasure' or whatever and what they now think of Usher.

I think part of JT's hipster appeal was the Michael Jackson-isms in several of his songs, along with the Neptunes production. Plus, he was damn funny on SNL.

I don't know that my liking of either JT or Usher would classify as a 'guilty pleasure.' I've never snubbed good pop music and probably never will. But I'm picky and good pop music only comes along every once in a while.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

haha what is the greater sin, institutional racism or saying that two Michael Jackson fan pop-singers are in the same market?

Usher's been calling him a "biter" for a reason. Take out the Corey Feldman and Usher what you have left in JT.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"guilty pleasure"? wtf

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe thats just people I know then. (and I said 'or whatever')

artdamages (artdamages), Sunday, 1 August 2004 18:37 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not entirely fair to compare Usher with JT's solo career and his solo career alone, since he was also the frontman of a group whose popularity is a bit more comparable to Ursher's. also, JT did a whole album with critic-friendly producers, which goes a long way towards all the media attention.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 2 August 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

usher sux.
