i haven't followed AMG's advise -- to see this on DVD -- but the CD is fine enough. it's my fave cure concert disk (of the official ones, that is). those lucky enough to see 'em live, how does this stack up to them now?

Details have become clouded in my mind over time, but is this the same concert that the film In Orange was from as well? If so, you have to keep in mind that this was like 19 or 20 years ago and with one of the more 'classic' line-ups.

The only time I've seen the band was on their Wish tour and it was still awe inspiring.

it's certainly not arena rock cure. it's more punk.

Totally dig this.

I got this around 1987, on cassette it had a whole side dedicated to bootleg quality versions of early tracks called "Curiosities", really piqued my interest in boots and Cure boots in general.

Great album, great lineup, although not my fave selection of tracks, smashing version of Killing An Arab IIRC, it's not the Cure In Orange era Cure, it's just a little before that lineup.

They had a really good drummer at this time called Andy Anderson who apparently flipped out a few times and was sacked, he's on "Concert".

There isn't a DVD/Video of this era comercially available (I'm sure AMG must be referring to "The Cure In Orange" but if you can find it, there is a fantastic concert of this lineup live in Japan that came out originally as a Japanese only laserdisc, there's also fantastic 1984 bootlegs from Washington and again Japan.

Yeah, I've also got that cassette.
I wasn't very familiar with early Cure at the time, so my luv for "One Hundred Years" began here.

"Heroin Face" (on Curiosities) sounds like the Buzzcocks.

And I mean it, Robert Smith sounds like Pete Shelley.

Oh, and it's great. The album, I mean.

A very great album, the more so because:

* it was a transitional lineup on the way to the classic enough Smith/Gallup/Thompson/Williams/*coughhackTolhurstOHYEAHO'Donnell-Bamonte lineup for the rest of the eighties and beyond

* it was STILL utterly amazing

Who is playing bass on 'Concert' Gallup, Ely or the producer bloke?

mzui, Monday, 2 August 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Phil Thornally I think. I think the live tracks were taken from the Top tour. The alternate version of In Your House sounds brilliant on the rarities section too. Surely it was the early version of Boys Dont Cry that sounds like the Buzzcocks, not heroin face?

but you have to go see In Ornage, just so you can see one of em Simon? pull off Roberts wig backstage right before they walk out /my memory is crumbling

Yeah, that too.
