Am I boring?

Isn't that the DVD that features that clip that's been circulating of the karate-chopping-moshing-insane-kids-going-apeshit?

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

A friend of mine bought it and lent it to me. I lost it. He said it was okay because the packaging was better than the content of the DVD itself. There are a few good clips on it but it reminds me of how much I loathe the majority of Converge's fanbase.

Reed Rosenberg (reed), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

The dvd is a wonderful sociological archive that very tidily documents the progression and evolution of the karate chop mosh. Fascinating, intriguing stuff. But I don't think that one clip that jon williams posted once is from the dvd. I didn't actually look at the link on the more recent thread though, so that might be from the dvd.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Reed, the good thing about records and dvds is that they enable me to enjoy music without ever encountering another fan of that music. Having said that, I would go see Converge in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you seen them before? I was actually at one of the shows on the DVD (haha, lame) and that one was great. The band was super energetic, the sound was tight, and Bannon made it through all the songs. Needless to say, I've also been to one or two shows where they weren't up to par. They're definitely worth checking out some time just for the experience but I not quite a consistent live band. Have you heard the leaks of the new album?

Reed Rosenberg (reed), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:35 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I've never seen them. I could have in Philly a bunch of times, but for whatever reason I never made it. And no, I haven't heard anything from the new album. I'm looking forward to it.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

No shit? That's my neck of the woods. They're playing the First Unitarian Church on Oct 27th with Cave In (who are supposedly playing mostly old songs since that last bullshit album of theirs gained them 0 new fans and saw them losing a slew of old ones). New stuff is excellent if you liked Jane Doe, not much of a departure from it (which is considered a disappointment by many fans since they've always made such leaps forward with every LP) but the elements they have added, (melodic guitar playing, messing with feedback, etc.) fucking slay.

Reed Rosenberg (reed), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait! For the album that is. I think Jane Doe was one of the best rock albums of the last decade. It's the album that made me a fan. I won't be at the church, alas. After living in Philly for 15 years I moved to martha's vineyard in massachusetts. Converge country, kinda. I even know the dude who helped build their new studio. I miss the church though. Say hello to my old pal Bull Gervasi.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Converge a few years back. They only got through about half their set, because during "The Saddeset Day" Jacob was mauled by the crowd and ended up puking all over himself and epic pile-ons broke some equipment or something. That was kind of a bummer. American Nightmare played that show too; they are not nearly as interesting as Converge.

Jane Doe was great, but I haven't listened to it in a year or more. I may have even sold it in a fit of poverty; I'm not sure. I know I definitely sold Petitioning The Empty Skies, which I kind of regret. I didn't listen to it very much, but when the mood strikes me, it's a lot less boring than putting on Reign in Blood or something.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

best non-LP Converge track: "Flowers and Razorwire"

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought the last American Nightmare album and didn't care for it at all. It might have been the mix though. It was all vocals, no guitar. Give me Hatebreed any day. DON'T SHOOT, I'M FROM CONNECTICUT! I have to like Hatebreed. It was my pal Robbie Redcheeks in Philly who made me buy the American Nightmare album. I miss Philly sometimes. Robbie is in a band called Damage and he runs the Dead By 23 label. We worked at the Korean grocery store together.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 03:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Are Damage still around? Wow. I remember getting a 7" by them sophomore year of high school. I figured they'd be one of those random hardcore bands that lasts for a few months and disappears.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

wait, it might be a different Damage. There was an old Damage. Robbie's band is newer. This I know cuz I sold an old Damage record on ebay for 80 bucks. (i bought it for a dollar in the dollar bin. I felt like I won the lottery.)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I love Jane Doe, but I dunno if I really wanna check anything else out by them.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Should I?

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The good Cave In album > the shitty Converge albums > the space rock Cave In > the nu metal Cave In

Typhoon is Coming!!! :O (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I need more Cave In. There are people who love that last album. I only have a weird e.p. called Tides of Tomorrow. I like it. It's very strange. It has one cringe-worthy moment though when the dude sings, "Your reality check is in the mail". Other than that, it's kinda cool.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yea, I got that for like $3 in the used bin. If you liked that, get "Jupiter" which is much in the same vein but waaaaaaaaaaay better.

"Until Your Heart Stops" is super super super super heavy.

Typhoon is Coming!!! :O (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I will buy that one. I like the sound they get on that e.p.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Until Your Heart Stops and Beyond Hypothermia (a collection of early EPs) are both really good, but UYHS is one of those records that's so heavy and so punishing I actually have a hard time listening to it all the way through. Jupiter is good, too.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I was at a party last week and some guy came in proudly bearing a CDR, saying "Guys, you gotta let me put this in. The new Converge." Everybody got crazy excited. Yeah, it was that kinda party.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that Stephen Hawking?

Holy Crap! Typhoon is Coming!!! :O (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy Crap! Typhoon is Coming!!! :O (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Let me know if they have the Morton Salt Jawbreaker shirt. I need to replace mine ASAP.

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't go there; I'm avoiding the girl with blonde hair (and have been for like 2 years)

Holy Crap! Typhoon is Coming!!! :O (ex machina), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

"Reed, the good thing about records and dvds is that they enable me to enjoy music without ever encountering another fan of that music. Having said that, I would go see Converge in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself."

OTM!

I first saw them on the Petitioning the Empty Sky tour. They have never disappointed me live.
