Rogue Wave - "Out of the Shadow"

I am resigned to seeing this thread vanish without even a whimper, but I thought I would start it for the few people who may happen to have stumbled across this disc, one of my favorites of recent months (although it's technically an old album, recorded in 2002 and rescued by Sub Pop for reissue). I am finding this to be an ultimate summer album -- reference points old and new include: Shins/A.C. Newman/Love/Zombies.
Search "Be Kind - Remind" and "Every Moment."
Any other takers?

sw@theOkiDog,

i liked it fine, here's a review:

ROGUE WAVE

OUT OF THE SHADOW

SUP POP

Zack Rogue’s Rogue Wave doesn’t immediately bring any other band (or genre, even!) to mind, which is, in and of itself, a minor triumph. You’ll notice Rogue Wave’s acoustic drive train of organic propulsion, but any minor urge to label the music “folksy” will fade away quickly. In the forefront, strummy guitars and sweet harmonies dominate. In the background, electronic burbles and twitters come and go as easily and naturally as birds and insects outside your window. The highlight is “Nourishment Nation”, with guitars sending notes up and down a slight incline, a trick that an ancient Moog seamlessly imitates and takes over for awhile before giving way to the guitars again. Zack Rogue sings over this, following the music with his voice like the whole thing was a game of Simon Says, and yeah, you can hear him smile in the thick of it. The track has a pulse, and while the entire body of work may not come across quite as strong, “Out Of The Shadow” will satisfy music listeners who are bored with third and fourth generation trendmongers.

Yeah, this is a swell record. The triumphant return of 6/8.

I only ever listen to the covers stuff, maybe I should expand my horizons.

albums are all good but the debut is still my favorite; band is finished now aside from stray random gigs AFAIK (zach has been my one of my studio partners for a bajillion years now, though he only uses it for storage and very rare practices).

Pat Spurgeon is a monster drummer. Saw and played a few gigs with him back in the old days in Bloomington. Played in a few bands back then but I loved the Steve Kowalski Army. I still have their couple 7 inches.

Definitely remember feeling in 2004-2005 they were the best live act in SF at that time. Saw them countlesa times and enjoyed it every single time.
