it's going to be the single on their Greatest Hits comp.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw R.E.M. cover "Word Up" in 1989.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

are you sure it wasn't an early draft of "Radio Song"?

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I really mean it this time. I'm done with music.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

haha

jess, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't G.U.N. already covered this in a rawk sylee too.

Back'n'Forth was always the better track.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah they did, this is NOTHING who CARES

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope Cameo hears this and smothers that fat fuck bass player of Korns with his giant cock cup.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i love these minor horrors that bring us all closer together

jess, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah my feined shock capslock was a bit dramatic but i figured what the hell

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

MAYBE if they did PUPPET ON A STRING but even then it wouldn't be that odd

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

now you're being dramatic with the capslock

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

UMMMdaktaummdakta EEBA! daDUMMdaktaummdakta EEBA! daDUMMdaktaummdakta EEBA!

*kornian for "awww fuck YEAH!"*

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

they should do "brickhouse"

jess, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I figured what the hell!

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

When Rome falls I will play that fiddle, baby.

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

They should do "How Much More" by the Go Gos

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

TS: Mel B vs Korn

R.I.M.A. (Barima), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

are you sure it wasn't an early draft of "Radio Song"?

yeah, it was actually "Word Up," with a short a cappela interlude into "Rock On." They did play BDP's "You Must Learn" on the PA after the concert, though.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm actually curious to hear what this sounds like. Even if I hate it (which I probably will), I can entertain myself by having a good laugh.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

they should do "brickhouse"

You are a cruel, evil man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm waiting for their cover of "You Dropped a Bomb on Me"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

But then again they might replace the dive-bomb effects with dive-bomb distorted guitar screeching, so that would suck

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Mel B's version is better (because it's more entertaining and EVERYONE, even Timbaland, needs a song to be horribly embarassed about). The Korn version is far more faithful than you'd expect. Actually, it's quite good, to be fair.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm waiting for their cover of "You Dropped a Bomb on Me"

when discussing the Backstreet Boys on MTV, Jonathan Davis admitted that there was one song ("Backstreet's Back") where if he closed his eyes he could pretend it was the Gap Band and start getting into it. Then he'd open his eyes and AAAAGGGH!!!!

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

haha.

i've heard rumors earlier however that they were doing a cover of fight the power or some such earlier however?

so which is it?

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Korn recently, on TV. They look really bad. Seriously. Theyre all really out of shape and pastey and sick looking. They didnt always look this bad.

David Allen (David Allen), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

That's seriously the greatest thing ever. I like Korn now.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm thinking they're realizing it's hard for them to be 'down with the kids' now and might as well just go the goof route.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Well it worked for Alien Ant Farm. Right? Right?

St. Nicholas (Nick A.), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

This makes perfect sense I think.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

they should do "brickhouse"

Well Rob Zombie did this feat. Lionel Richie and Trina

theycallmetatorsalad, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I seriously want to buy the entire Korn back catalogue now, I'm so entertained by this news. (I am also disturbed that my fandom can be bought so easily; I'm guessing that I've been looking for an excuse to like Korn for some time and just didn't realize it until now.)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I strongly suggest just buying the greatest hits collection first if you must -- I think you'll discover the result is sorta like what if Ministry never listened to Adrian Sherwood at any point but then decided to 'rock out' anyway.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think a lot of cocaine is involved, in the creation of this cover and with the postings on this thread.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I strongly protest to this vision. Cocaine would mean they might record something good. I prefer to think they are on extremely horrible crank.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

And having nothing to do with Korn, the talk upthread of "Radio Song" reminds me...

At the KRS-One show last night I was freestyling with these dudes within earshot of a signing-autographs KRS and drunkenly squawked "it's two in the morning, how long can this shit go on, psh whatever as long as Chris don't decide to do 'Radio Song'". Most of the corny indie fuxx laughed. Most of the hip-hop heads didn't get it. I envy that in them.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
I finally heard this and, no joke, it's fucking wonderful and I love it.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 22 August 2004 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Where can I find it to give it a once over?
What's the code word (no matter where you say it you know it will be heard)?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 22 August 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

its all over kazaa; haven't even tried slsk

jake b. (cerybut), Sunday, 22 August 2004 09:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I incorrectly imagined this to be 1000x worse than it actually is, and now I even kind of like it.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 22 August 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

This kicks ass.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 22 August 2004 20:01 (twenty-one years ago)

So it took ten years for them to finally not suck, is what you're saying.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 August 2004 20:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Precisely.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 22 August 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

There's something to be said for persistence.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 22 August 2004 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Now we wait for their vocalese covers of Freddie Hubbard tunes

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 22 August 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"Reclaim my Place" is the same song as Bowie "Stay"

dave q, Sunday, 22 August 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm kinda psyched for britney's "my prerogative"

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 23 August 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha wow! This is great!

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm glad everyone likes it; I just heard it a few days ago in the car and had to blast that shit.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd sorta like them to come out all kitted out New Romantic style in the way that Mr. Davis always alleges he was into/looked like growing up and complete the internal mental implosion of their stereotypical fanbase.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i need to hear this badly.

g--ff (gcannon), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

DAMN THIS LACK OF COMPUTER SPEAKERS

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck the New Romantic style; MY MAN NEEDS A LARRY BLACKMUN CODPIECE STAT

Um, actually I want to retract that (curse my overactive imagination); please JD wear the baggiest thing you can find, like maybe a muumuu.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

jd is getting a little thick around the middle

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

See, Dan, there was a REASON I didn't suggest that he go that route.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 August 2004 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah this is great. they have their overfilly numetal drums and then the blackmon POCCH snare slapped over the whole thing too. applying the numetal formula to such a kitchen-sink song like this is pretty funny, cos heavy ass guitars end up = restraint!

i hope it's huge.

g--ff (gcannon), Sunday, 5 September 2004 08:25 (twenty years ago)

Now all you sucker. D.J.’s
Who think you’re fly
There’s got to be a reason
And we know the reason why.

Larry, Saturday, 11 September 2004 22:36 (twenty years ago)

two months pass...
Two words that I'm shocked haven't come up yet:

Midnight Oil.

It sounds like fucking Midnight Oil.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 13 November 2004 04:47 (twenty years ago)

haha holy shit you're right.

I think this is going to place very high in my year end singles list.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 13 November 2004 04:55 (twenty years ago)

It must be this 'ironic', tounge-in-cheek contrast to the old, angsty Korn that everyone's so giddy over because they've done fuck-all production-wise with Cameo's original. A tweak here, a tweak there, but essentially treading water. Irony for its own sake is tired - it's been on that treadmill for a good five years now. Why applaud Korn just because they used to be worse?

And really, the pop promo for this just rubbish. Even if the art direction is supposed to impress for its hip, nudge-nudge to Basement Jaxx, the graphics are way poor by comparison and the net result is just boring. They may have even twigged to this some 3/4 of the way through the clip because these alpha-female types suddenly appear and start showing their boobies in disco cash-money shockah.

Yawn.

Stephen Stockwell (Stephen Stockwell), Saturday, 13 November 2004 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Oh, yeah. Basement Jaxx, meaning their clip for "Where's Your Head At?".

Stephen Stockwell (Stephen Stockwell), Saturday, 13 November 2004 12:28 (twenty years ago)

dude, it's just a fun cover, calm the fuck down.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 13 November 2004 15:15 (twenty years ago)

It must be this 'ironic', tounge-in-cheek contrast to the old, angsty Korn that everyone's so giddy over because they've done fuck-all production-wise with Cameo's original.

Dude, drop-tuned bass.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Saturday, 13 November 2004 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Their "Another Brick In The Wall" cover isn't even half as good.

billstevejim, Saturday, 13 November 2004 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Note-for-note covers of songs that don't need to be tweaked or altered in any way to still come across as fun and awesome don't require irony to enjoy.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 13 November 2004 19:57 (twenty years ago)

You like Midnight Oil, don't you?

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 13 November 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago)

This song was tweaked and altered. Cameo does not sound like Midnight Oil.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 13 November 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I do like Midnight Oil, Mr. Pedantic Pants.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 13 November 2004 20:01 (twenty years ago)

I figured you did.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 13 November 2004 20:02 (twenty years ago)

Dan, what's fun and awesome about the in-your-face guy at the party who sticks a lampshade on his head after noticing everyone else getting bored of him constantly drawing attention to the scars on his wrists? A threadbare party trick - cute, at best. In half an hour he'll be throwing up. Then falling asleep.

If only I had a sense of humour.

Stephen Stockwell (Stephen Stockwell), Sunday, 14 November 2004 13:25 (twenty years ago)

wtf if only

adam (adam), Sunday, 14 November 2004 15:39 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
so have you heard their cover of "Another Brick In The Wall"? It's kind of a nice treatment, actually, it's interesting what they decide to leave in/leave out. And it's kind of funny to hear something that long and desolate and overtly suicidal on the radio.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

eight years pass...

i still like this

turds (Hungry4Ass), Saturday, 4 May 2013 22:36 (twelve years ago)

me too, i heard it on the radio once or twice last year and cranked it

Ship Lion (some dude), Saturday, 4 May 2013 22:36 (twelve years ago)

yessss
