In what universe are the Isleys, Sting, and Bon Jovi one-hit wonders? Two of these artists are already in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame!

Ry, Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey Ya!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

chris andrews (fraew), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

MY NOMINATIONS ARE ELVIS, THE BEATLES, AND CHRIST.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

but the gorillaz, the hives and scissor sisters have all had more than one hit

So did tATu and Macy Gray. The only 100% goner on that list is Sisqo.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Royksopp had three great singles.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

14 Sisqo Got To Get It Feb 2000
3 Sisqo Thong Song Apr 2000
6 Sisqo Unleash The Dragon Sep 2000

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

what kind of twilight zone chart is this?!!

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

The British charts.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah. Apologies on behalf of America for unleashing the dragon on you.

We should really divide these lists by country. It's hopeless otherwise.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

TaTu and the Scissor Sisters weren't one-hits.

The Good Dr. Bill (Andrew Unterberger), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah that list is off the wall.

shakedown-at night

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus?

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Tuesday, 3 August 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

obvious choices are the many one-off advert-theme bands; babylon zoo, seven mary three, free radicals etc..

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, *good* call on the Sunshine Anderson track. Damn did we all forget her fast. I'll follow it up with Truth Hurts, "Addictive." And one I hope I'm wrong about, Wayne Wonder, "No Letting Go."

And not that I'd want them on any mix, but I don't expect Cassidy or Eamon or Frankee to ever show up on the charts again.

Joseph McCombs, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

what?, you don't see frankee as a possible lennon in the wings?

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I love Eamon.

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

And he already has a second hit!

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 06:21 (twenty-one years ago)

AFROMAN - BECAUSE I GOT HIGH

jake b. (cerybut), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 07:14 (twenty-one years ago)

You ignoring the laugh-along riot that was "Crazy Rap" Jake?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

The first in an occasional series: actual one hit wonders of the 00s (UK edition). The following acts have all had a top ten single this decade, and no top 40s before or after. First off: the year 2000.

(And, amazingly, Spiller, Wookie, and Tweet all had follow-up singles. A penny to anyone who can name all three)

5 Des Mitchell (Welcome) To The Dance Jan 2000
3 Scanty Sandwich Because Of You Jan 2000
8 Nu Generation In Your Arms (Rescue Me) Jan 2000
10 Rebecca Wheatley Stay With Me (Baby) Feb 2000
10 Rank 1 Airwave Apr 2000
6 Lock 'N' Load Blow Ya Mind Apr 2000
2 Sweet Female Attitude Flowers Apr 2000
3 Watergate Heart Of Asia May 2000
9 Southside Spinners Luvstruck May 2000
10 Sia Taken For Granted Jun 2000
7 B15 Project featuring Chrissy D & Lady G Girls Like Us Jun 2000
4 Element Four Big Brother UK TV Theme Sep 2000
7 Vanessa Amorosi Absolutely Everybody Sep 2000
2 Zombie Nation Kernkraft 400 Sep 2000
8 Azzido Da Bass Dooms Night Oct 2000
9 Kandi Don't Think I'm Not Nov 2000

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't remember Des Mitchell, Nu Generation, Rebecca Wheatley, Rank 1, Vanessa Amorosi and Kandi at all!

Element 4 = blokes who had other hits in other guises, still counts tho i guess

well done Dom for PROPER ONE HIT WONDERS (most of them released other singles but none anywhere near i.e. top 40 - as successful)

i liked the Sia track

what about M&S Salsoul Nugget 'If You Wanna Ride The Rhythm' or whatever it was, or was that 2001?

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not surprised Sweet Female Attitude didn't have a second hit. They were kind of a noughties Reynolds Girls.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't Scanty Sandwich another "name" dance guy working under a pseudonym? I forget.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Scanty Sandwich may have been Loop Da Loop ('Hazel' etc.) but i don't know where I'm getting that from. The most obvious suggestion was that it was Norman Cook but I think it was more likely a protege of his and not the Fatboy himself tho he may have been 'exec producer' or something.

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

'Flowers' was a great track and so I am surprised it wasn't followed up with another hit. Reynolds Girls?! tut tut Mr H

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Vanessa Amorosi had three big singles in Australia (where she's from) but was last seen helping build fences. Ha. I think she had some hits in France...? Still, one-hit wonder everywhere else, rightfully she'd have had NONE.

The Spiller follow-up "Cry Baby" was bloody crap, no wonder it stiffed.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought it was ok but...you're right

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

my favourites, uk versh:

sweet like chocolate
spooks- karma hotel
donnell jones- you know what's up-
m2m- don't say you love me

supermen lovers- starlight
puretone- addicted to bass
alizee- moi, lolita
shy fx- shake your body
Nore- Nothin

may, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

To blur the lines somewhat, Rank 1 had a second UK hit with their remix of Cygnus X - Superstring.

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Dream - "He Loves Me Not" (I think that's the band/song)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

did Junior Senior have only one hit?

T. Weiss (Timmy), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Two, "Rhythym Bandits" got to... 21?

May- wasn't "Ante Up" a bigger hit than "Cold As Ice"?
