don't know the makes/models but the human being pushing the keyboard buttons is the incomparable Hubert Eaves. I'd love to track him down for an interview, and if that ever happens I'll ask what synths he used.

I've always wanted to hear Juicy Fruit. I love how all those Miles guys ended up doing these saucy electrofunk records in the 80s...

It's on Rhino's "Street Jams: Back 2 the Old Skool" box set, a collection of west-coasty, proto-hip-hop funk I always slap on at parties.

It's on the excellent compilation "The Soul of Disco" (Ministry of Sound Germany) which also has some great Patrick Adams/Greg Carmichael productions like "She Can't Love You" (by Chemise), and "Let's Get Together" (Pam Todd & Love Exchange).

Was "Juicy Fruit" actually a hit in 1983? I can't imagine the smutty lyrics going down well on the radio.

i remember hearing it pretty regularly on the radio and seeing the video in heavy rotation on Music Video Connection and the other show taped out of NYC whose name eludes me now.

Hubert eaves was the guy who played the keyboards on D-train's albums.

I think one of the keyboards in the Mtume song might have been a Roland Jupiter-6 and or an oberheim Ob-Xa. this is just off the top of my head.

Kind of amazing to go from On the Corner and Get Up With It to writing and producing for Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway's ("The Closer I Get To You," co-written with Reggie Lucas, who was also in Miles' band in 1972-75 and wrote and produced a lot of Madonna's debut album) and Stephanie Mills ("Never Knew Love Like This Before")...
