No, I think that's just some actor.

Chriddof (Chriddof), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:42 (twenty-one years ago)

19 - Paul Hardcastle?

Primal Scream - Loaded, or so I've heard.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

"Loaded" is a remix of a song called "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" from their previous album - so most of it is them.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The entire works of Katz & Kazenatz to thread... OK, they produced it all, but they didn't *write* any of it, and yet, there are their names on the publishing and the record labels.

Super-Masonic Black Hole (kate), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

2. Milli Vanilli - everything

haha, very good ;)

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Paul Hardcastle and Mike Oldfield - they produced and arranged the music!

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Bob The Builder and Mr Blobby don't count either, before anyone gets any funny ideas

the neurotic awakening of s (blueski), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:11 (twenty-one years ago)

the Tweenies and the Teletubbies, however....

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Gary Barlow got the writer's credit for "Back for Good" even though it was apparently actually written on the qt by the Bee Gees.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

every euro disco act ever. except turbo b.

John Cocktolstoy, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Cliff Nobles & Co. - "The Horse" (Cliff was the band's vocalist)

Joseph McCombs, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The Archies!

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Diana Ross & the Supremes - "Someday We'll Be Together" (Diana's on there, of course, but I'm told the other Supremes are not.)

The last hit or two from Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell didn't have Tammi Terrell, who was too ill to sing.

Also, I've heard that the first hit from Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles wasn't actually them singing, but I forget the song and I forget who was said to have done it instead.

Everything by Goldie?

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Goldie played keys and other instruments and provided vocals on many of his tracks

"Jesus Built My Hotrod" - Ministry

(it was the butthole surfers) (well, that's not entirely true)

Huck, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

the Lennon half of Lennon/McCartney - Yesterday. there are probably also other similar examples from the White Album.

common_person (common_person), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:02 (twenty-one years ago)

well if you're just looking for bands where not every member of the band played on every song on every record, then, um, the entire history of music to thread.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Ike and Tina Turner - River Deep Mountain High - No Ike to be seen!

In fact, there's quite a few Spector productions that are credited to band/artists who didn't actually contribute.. The Crystals for instance..

Jack Battery-Pack (Jack Battery-Pack), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Conversely, there's "Phil Spector" LPs on which he did not sing/play.
And exactly what the hell did Alan Parsons do, anyways? Or Quincy Jones?

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Felly on Pump Up The Jam

Quite a lot of records with a famous DJ's name on it were (more or less) produced by others: Sven Väth, Sasha, Tiesto, DJ Jean.

And where the hell is Enya on that Mario Winans/P.Diddy song anyway?

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there are huge swaths of the Kiss catalog wherein Ace Frehley and Peter Criss do not appear in the slightest, despite what the album covers would have you believe.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The non-12" version of Sylvester's "Dance (Disco Heat)" only features Two Tons o' Fun singing (though Sylvester does open the song with some "fabulous party" spoken ad-libs with one of the Tons).

Rich, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not 100% positive of this, but "Crush On You" by Li'l Kim.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

doesnt kim say 'true'? and isnt it a junior mafia song?

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

erm... wot abaht virtually all of Malcolm McLaren's singles ?

darren (darren), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

It was the 2nd or 3rd single off her first album, and although it would make sense that it's her who says "true," it's debatable whether or not that's actually her voice since she doesn't sound like that on any other song.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

And where the hell is Enya on that Mario Winans/P.Diddy song anyway?

Sasha Frere-Jones:
"The primary melody here is provided by a sample from Enya’s “Boadicea” that might sound familiar, having been featured in the Fugees’ 1996 single “Ready or Not.” ... The sample is a gorgeous figure -- Enya hums twelve notes over a loping keyboard bass line, lost in echo. In 1996, I liked the sample in the Fugees song so much that I bought the original, only to find that twelve notes is the perfect dose of Enya."

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)
