Polyphonic Spree question

you're a member of the band, you play a show...how much money do you leave the venue with?

Not a lot right? $50 maybe? I'm sure a working class indy band, working dayjobs and doing weekend mini-tours would probably be siked on this, but the polyphonic spree seem to tour all the time! I'm sure it's fun to wear a robe and sing shitty songs, but splitting all the money with 20 or so people...is it worth it? I don't think they are selling tons of records either.

anyone have an inside track on their finances...soundscan?

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I imagine that they all pool their money together and use it to buy drugs.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd need it to make music like that and pretend to enjoy it, so I think you're onto something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, they do it for Jesus, maaaaan.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

don't people on drugs usually make good music?

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

See, if the Polyphonic Spree looked like that, I'd forgive them for a lot of their music.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i read that the polyphonic spree's new deal with hollywood records basically gives the label all of their money in exchange for setting them up on tour and generally allowing them to exist as a group with 923480324 people.

Oh God, the idea of The Polyphonic Spree getting a multimillion dollar endowment that could fund them in perpituity is literally about to make me cry.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

The Polyphonic Spree have sold 19,888 copies of their album to date. None of these copies have been purchased by Hitler.

Talent Explosion (Talent Explosion), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

A LIKELY STORY

(No seriously; that's very likely, what with Hitler being all dead and stuff.)

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 5 August 2004 03:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait--Hitler's dead?

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Thursday, 5 August 2004 03:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe a couple of them (the core / ex Tripping Daisy guys?) run a record shop which (presumably) helps to subsidise the band.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 5 August 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think it's always necessarily quite as unrelentingly gleeful being a member of the band as apearances might suggest either.

I heard that a couple of members defected during the last UK tour because they couldn't cope with the low pay / lousy accomodation etc.

Fortunately, because there are so many of them and they all look the same anyway, I don't think anyone actually noticed.

They really are great fun live 'though btw.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 5 August 2004 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i tried to book the polyphonic spree

they do a nice stage performance

but they cost 20,000.

so it never happened
