Caught between "Love To Love You" and "I Feel Love", the forgotten classic of Summer's career or the rightfully forgotten mediocre stab at a follow-up? I say: Classic!

The same damn theme over and over, but Giorgio, sweet Giorgio switches up the drums enough times to keep up the interest level. It's not fever pitch, mind, but the bass is just futuristic enough (as are the little curlicues of strings) to keep me wanting more. And the breakdown at thirteen minutes delivers, people. Discuss.

Try Me I Know We Can Make It. It'd be classic just for pretending it's four songs! Ha whoops

Can we also discuss the Barry Manilow cover on this record? I mean, is this not genius?

Sam Benson (Sam Benson), Friday, 6 August 2004 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(even, like, discounting the double entendre of coming into her arms?)

"Wasted"'s on this rec too, isn't it?

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 6 August 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed, it trades teh slow ballad-y second side of Love to Love You for Moroderized funk.

Sam Benson (Sam Benson), Friday, 6 August 2004 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

After "Love To Love You...", I suppose it's the best in the Moroder pre-electro era — if only for its sheer ability to reshuffle its basic elements in consistently engaging ways. And yes, those string trills! And this may be what Sam is talking about, but that appearance of the clavinet about 8 min. in! A great shower n' shave tune in the morning.

And though I almost missed it, as a friend pointed out to me, "Wasted" is seriously great — though I admit I'm less sold on the Manilow cover. So...yes, classic!

"Wasted"'s maybe my fav DS song, really

six months pass...
Manilow cover is also a Chopin cover (and it's one of her great songs ever, though not quite as good as "Love to Love You Baby" and "I Feel Love").

probably my favorite Donna Summer track--not as monumental as "IFL" or even "LTLYB" but the one I've obsessed over most.
