How does one get into the business of writing commercial jingles?

I was just reading an article about that dude from that horrible band The Album Leaf, and apparently, he made his living writing jingles until recently. I have always believed, as I'm sure a lot of you have, that I could write jingles. Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey did it on Full House. How does one get into this business? Are there less and less 'jingle houses' nowadays because all the companies are buying actual songs to pimp their shit? Are there websites?

There are still music houses that produce jingles and other ad music, but the biggest ones are in NYC, so good luck getting in there. There are other ones throughout the country, but most of them are very small operations that aren't looking to hire other writers (for example, here in Dallas, there is one called Juniper Music, which has done lots of stuff, but all their music comes from the two guys who own the company, they don't use outside writers except on an occasional freelance basis). The easiest was to get started is to freelance. If you know people in advertising, you should try to work with them. I did this a few times, though will say that I very quickly realized writing music for ads wasn't my vocation.

"Uncle Jesse and Uncle Joey did it on Full House."

I found out that this defence really doesn't hold up in a Court of Law.

Hmm. The Album Leaf are from my hometown. I wonder if he worked at the studio part-owned by Glen Galaxy/Galloway or Trumans Water and Soul Junk.

They do all jingles, btw. If you hear a commercial jingle that sounds like Soul Junk, there you go...

This used to really grate on me, but it's kind of grown on me over the years of not hearing it any more, especially:
