pdf (Phil Freeman), Sunday, 8 August 2004 19:36 (twenty-one years ago)

pdf, how many of these have you actually heard?

Phillip Deck, Sunday, 8 August 2004 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Wake Up by the Boo Radleys is really nice. I'd recommend it without thinking twice, though it doesn't fit with some of the other titles on that list. Sunny sounding Brit-pop without the busy production of their later albums.

If you haven't heard any Breeders albums, you should probably get at least one. Last Splash has the big hit/Pod is likely the more interesting one.

The Jaz and Maz Chain and the Orbital are both great, the rest I either don't know well enough or could happily live without.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 8 August 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

"Pod" s'okay I guess. The rest I would hold off on.

o. nate (onate), Sunday, 8 August 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

>how many of these have you actually heard?

All of 'em. Why do you doubt my verdicts, and nobody else's?

pdf (Phil Freeman), Sunday, 8 August 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

CeCe Peniston (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 8 August 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Black Eyes - Cough (don't know it)
The Boo Radleys - Wake Up (ick, it's poppiness and frequent banality might make you retch, the Boos have done better)
The Breeders - Last Splash (BEST DRIVING ALBUM EVER)
The Breeders - Pod (also good)
Hole - Live Through This (quite decent, at least five or six really strong tracks)
Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy (oh yes)
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley (don't know it)
Mad Season - Above (ask my little brother)
Orbital - Snivilization (buy without delay)
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik (unnecessary)
R.E.M. - Automatic for the People (you want this)
White Zombie - Astral Creep 2000 (you want this to fuck off and die)

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 8 August 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The Boo Radleys - Wake Up
- apart from "Parklife", I'd say this was the best Britpop-era album to have been made. Fuck "Different Class", "Definitely Maybe" and "I Should Coco" - this is great inventive pure-pop at it's best.

Hole - Live Through This
Not really that good. I liked Violets though/

Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley
Awesomeahj. This will blow your mind. The best rock'n'roll album of the 90s.

Orbital - Snivilization
You're better off with "Insides" unless you already have it. This is okay - maybe a bit dated though.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Why not just go to the pub - it'll be on the jukebox ad infinitum.

R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
Yes, it's lovely and everyone should really have a copy, even if they don't listen to it.

White Zombie - Astral Creep 2000
If it's got "More Human Than Human" on it, get it if it's cheap.

dog latin (dog latin), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only heard the last three, and Hole - Live Through This. The last three are all ok except Hole, that is kinda lame. The other ones I'd pass on. Haven't heard them, but they all sound like poopy ones.

Spatula Player, Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Hole, yes. Orbital, yes. Both Breeders, yes. REM... meh, buy it but you'll never listen to it. RHCP, noooo. The others, I haven't heard and am not particularly bothered about hearing.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 8 August 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i own or have owned eight of these records. i don't listen to any of them, although snivilization and psychocandy are theoretically good.

artiste, Monday, 9 August 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, it's lovely and everyone should really have a copy, even if they don't listen to it.

meh, buy it but you'll never listen to it.

What, pray tell, should one do with this REM record if not listen to it? I never listen to mine either, and could use some hints...

And yeah, Psychocandy never seems to get old, so here's another vote for that at least.

Nag! Nag! Nag! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Monday, 9 August 2004 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

The Boo Radleys - Wake Up - this is great
Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy - this is overrated mush
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley - this is phenomenal
Orbital - Snivilization - this is also phenomenal, especially the first and last two tracks
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik - my friends loved this when we were 16, I did not
R.E.M. - Automatic for the People - this is OK, in a middle-aged classi sort of way

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 9 August 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Wake Up, P/candy, Snivilisation, Auto/People.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 9 August 2004 11:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Breeders DEFINITELY, both superb. Kyuss YES JUST AS GOOD. REM/JAMC- both v good records

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 9 August 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Get the Breeders discs, Psychocandy, and Kyuss.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 9 August 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Psychocandy is a complete no-brainer.

Wake Up and Pod are also worth having.
