i'm a fan...saw him play solo and with a quartet once. he did pretty mesmerizing things with what looked like little effort...seemed like he had a lot of respect for his aged equipment and records. nice drones. i have 7 and i like it. s/d?

not necessarily for fucking though.
― sleep, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
Let's forget about the fucking and talk about Philip jeck.
― admrl, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
Let's compromise and talk about fucking Philip Jeck.

Oh the shame. This music is still good for sitting idle in a state of prolonged deterioration. I like vinyl coda III da breast. Nice, dirty, earthen textures. The album <i>Hidden Name</> by Stephan Mathieu & Janek Schaefer reminds me a lot of Jeck music, but sort of improves on it.

where do i start with this jeck guy. kinda like this one i'm listening to called 'sand'
― eman, Saturday, 27 September 2008 05:41 (seventeen years ago)
Nothing will turn on that special lady friend more than listening to Philip Jeck's latest lp, Sand. I find that listening to harsh, abstract, avant-garde noise will get anyone in the mood.
Great artist, though. :)

"Spirits up", on "Surf", which is for the most part "Cheree"... is beautiful.

Yeah, sad. He had one of the best things at a big sound art show on the South Bank I saw many years ago - just a whole wall of old automatic record players spinning different discs at different speeds and times etc. When I looked, quite a few of the lps were one particular Band of Susans rec on Blast First, which I'm guessing he got as a job lot somewhere and adapted for his own purposes - the source material was unrecognisable in its installation state.
― Ward Fowler, Monday, 28 March 2022 12:34 (four years ago)
He collaborated with Gavin Bryars on an excellent version of Bryars' The Sinking of the Titanic a few years ago. RIP.

haha, good thread title to commemorate him.
― akm, Monday, 28 March 2022 13:29 (four years ago)
That version of Titanic is fantastic. I still listen to Surf and Sand a lot. Will be spinning all three today for sure.
