"the crypt" - 2 cds and arguably a definitive performance, and a pretty beautiful recordings. then again maybe "ammusic" would be better, with the tracks being edited to a more easily digestible length.

the split with Mev is suitably murked-out

and Generative Themes always gives me a fix

but European Improv generally bores me to tears - small portions only please

I'm listening to Newfoundland. I think Keith Rowe got better as he went on. What else did John T. do besides Feldman?

And Evan Parker, especially bowing cymbals.

I'm still waiting for that AMM/Christian Wolff live set at the Conway Hall to come out on CD. 2002?

It's 10.00 and I'm Huw Edwards. I don't write this stuff. (Marcello Carlin), Thursday, 2 October 2008 10:40 (seventeen years ago)

What else did John T. do besides Feldman?

lost daylight on Another Timbre is a pretty nice collection of Terry Jennings pieces played by Tilbury. real melancholy, drifty, easy. Even bittersweet. Doesn't have a lot of that unsettled, Feldman-type of vibe.

Don't know a lot of AMM music, but uncovered correspondence (prevost/tilbury) from a few years ago has some nice moments. Oddly resolved and overtly melodic (though understated) parts to it.

Great shame Rowe fell out with Prevost, AMM aren't the same without him.

answer to thread question is obvs Newfoundland, from calm to storm in 70 minutes, superb audio quality. I really need to get a few more of the Matchless era recordings.

more details here... looks really interesting (wish i wasn't on the other side of the world!) & xposts: am quite partial to tilbury's rendering of the sonatas and interludes that came out in the mid-seventies.

Back in August of 2015, the legendary London Grand Seigneurs of improvisation pioneers, AMM (John Tilbury & Eddie Prevost) joined forces with Lebanese electro-acoustic-free-jazz outfit A-Trio (Mazen Kerbaj, Sharif Sehnaoui & Raed Yassin). Two generations of improvisers with a very differing approach to work, captured dancing slowly along a very thin line of fine tuned, both, clear and crackling improvised sounds. Harsh at times with magic mellow moments of intense, fragile, broken noises. No overdubs, no use of electronics. UnJazz at times.
