ok. received this today. 'This is The Shit' by Roger

- new release on Head Heritage (www.kingdomofroger.com).

after years of Copey et al doing the krautrock groove i feel that he has decided to move onto pastures new .. not sure if he is on the lp .. but damn this is the fonkiest album in ages .. massive bass driven rock band funk, extended grooves with a fucked up conceptual messiness - all very P-Funk/Mothership.

anyone else had the pleasure ? or are we getting too close to a Darkness type of pastiche/piss-take and therefore enjoyment must be curtailed at all costs ?

The maze to get into the website nearly sent me into a full panic attack. I was hoping to download an album track, but the MP3s on the site are odd comp tracks, I guess. What 2 songs should I search?

the site entry is indeed mad ! i have no idea how i did it .. but eventually they let me in as i was deemed to have the necessary Fonk ..

tracknames :

roger loves u
fonk wars

there is more detail @ headheritage.co.uk

but i guess from the lack of responses i am one of the very few who have heard this so far.
shame. i reckon a lot of ILM would have either extreme love or extreme hatred towards this.

keep hashing away at the entry . i think the whole album is streamed
onwards !

sorry don't know anything about this Roger but there's an act of the same name in Manchester who pull off the PSB-meets-New Order thing perfectly. the Paul Haig remix of 'Back In Fashion' is particularly ace.

Roger were at Leeds but I missed them because it took 45 minutes to get in. Are you still involved with them?

Fergal (Ferg), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Ho Fug, I almost went down to see them myself but parties took priority. I write the odd thing for the Big Fin every now and again but not properly involved really. I think they're doing things with Chromeo and Radio 4 sometime soon so that could be nice.

are we drifting into the Manc Roger of the Funk Beast Roger .. as i aint seen any news re Roger playing gigs yet ..
perhaps this is why on the album cover its Roger with the strikethrough on the 'O'.

Ian, that sounds good, Chromeo were ace at Leeds, got all the disinterested festival kids off their arses as soon as they did Needy Girl. Let me know what's going on with that if you hear owt.

(Sorry other-Roger fans)

I've heard it, it was pretty fun. Cope doing P-Funk, complete with silly voices, furious beats, etc.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 1 September 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Aye, will do Ferg. Msg me on Ssk to get that Paul Haig mix, I reckon you'll love it. HUGE pummelling bassline, like the best FFerdinand with a Scandinavian Sumner non-emoting over the top. Also, 'You're So Gansta' is my new favest Chromeo track but there's many diff versions, make sure you've got the proper electro-disco one.

Again, sorry other Roger peoples but go on, go http://www.rogerpeople.com
